Unitrans is seeking an experienced Insurance Manager to lead and coordinate the Groups insurance and claims function. The role is responsible for ensuring appropriate and cost-effective insurance cover effective claims management accurate financial provisioning and strong insurance governance across the business.

The successful candidate will work closely with brokers insurers operational teams finance and other stakeholders to manage insurance risks recover losses improve controls and support sound decision-making across the Group.



Duties & Responsibilities

Insurance Renewals & Policy Management

  • Coordinate annual insurance renewals declarations and policy reviews.
  • Liaise with brokers and insurers to ensure appropriate cover at competitive rates.
  • Review insurance policies premiums excesses exclusions and coverage requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve coverage and optimise insurance costs.
  • Maintain accurate insurance schedules policies and supporting documentation.

Claims Management & Recoveries

  • Oversee and manage insurance claims across the Group.
  • Ensure claims are submitted accurately and within required timelines.
  • Monitor outstanding claims and follow up on recoveries.
  • Liaise with insurers brokers attorneys assessors and operational stakeholders.
  • Drive recovery of claims and third-party recoverable amounts.
  • Escalate complex and high-value claims where required.

Financial Reporting & Reconciliations

  • Manage insurance provisions reserves reconciliations and reporting schedules.
  • Review recoveries settlements write-offs and provision movements.
  • Investigate and resolve insurance-related financial discrepancies.
  • Support month-end and year-end reporting requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records supporting insurance-related financial reporting.

Systems Governance & Compliance

  • Maintain governance over insurance and financial systems including INSY Uniflow and Sage X3.
  • Monitor data integrity and compliance with internal controls.
  • Ensure appropriate approvals audit trails and documentation are maintained.
  • Identify insurance risks process gaps and control weaknesses.
  • Support compliance with Group insurance and governance requirements.

Stakeholder & Audit Management

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with brokers insurers auditors attorneys and assessors.
  • Provide technical insurance guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Prepare management reports on claims recoveries insurance costs and trends.
  • Present insurance information in a clear and practical manner for decision-making.

Team Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Coordinate the activities of the Insurance and Claims team.
  • Provide guidance coaching and technical support.
  • Monitor claims reporting and recovery performance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service delivery reporting and operational efficiency


Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Insurance Risk Management Finance Accounting or a related field.
  • Professional insurance qualification (IISA or equivalent) will be advantageous.

Experience

  • Up to 5 years experience in corporate insurance claims management financial reporting or a related environment.
  • Experience managing insurance portfolios claims recoveries and financial provisions.
  • Experience engaging with brokers insurers auditors attorneys and operational stakeholders.
  • Experience coordinating or leading a small team is advantageous.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Working knowledge of Sage X3 Uniflow and INSY.
  • Experience with Power BI QlikView or similar reporting tools.
  • Strong understanding of insurance policies claims processes financial provisions and governance controls.
  • Strong analytical reconciliation and reporting capabilities.
