Job Summary

We are appointing an Information & Content Migration Specialist on contract to lead the migration of website content publications and information assets into a redesigned and upgraded web platform.

The existing site holds a substantial archive research publications socio-economic data products policy briefs media items and document libraries much of it inconsistently tagged and structured. Your job is to get all of it across to the new platform intact correctly classified fully searchable and with no broken links or orphaned documents.

This is a delivery role with a defined end state. Youll work with the web development team the clients information centre and communications staff and report into the project manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Audit the existing website and document repositories; produce a full content inventory and ROT (redundant obsolete trivial) analysis.
  • Design the source-to-target content model: page mappings document library structures metadata schema taxonomy and controlled vocabularies.
  • Prepare content for migration de-duplication file naming normalisation format conversion bulk metadata tagging accessibility remediation of documents where required.
  • Build and run migration scripts/tooling; execute pilot migration then production waves against an agreed schedule.
  • Preserve URL integrity: build and test redirect maps resolve broken links protect existing search rankings and inbound references.
  • Validate every wave record counts file integrity checks metadata completeness rendering checks across devices.
  • Maintain the migration log exception register and remediation tracker as project evidence.
  • Populate and QA content in the new CMS; train client content owners on the destination platform.
  • Produce closeout documentation: final reconciliation report taxonomy and governance handover pack content maintenance guidelines.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Information Science Information Management Library and Information Studies Records Management Computer Science or Information Technology.
  • 35 years demonstrable experience in website content migration digital content management or information management.
  • Hands-on CMS experience (WordPress Drupal Joomla Umbraco SharePoint or equivalent) including bulk import/export.
  • Practical migration and data-handling skills: advanced Excel/Power Query plus scripting (PowerShell Python SQL or PHP) for bulk operations.
  • Working knowledge of metadata standards taxonomy design and document classification/retention practice.
  • Understanding of POPIA and of records management principles (ISO 15489) as they apply to published information.
  • Familiarity with web accessibility (WCAG 2.1) and SEO-safe migration practice.
  • Able to evidence migration completeness counts checksums metadata integrity not just report that a job ran.
  • Certified copies of qualifications and a signed detailed CV required. Foreign qualifications must carry SAQA evaluation.

Advantageous

  • Prior work on public-sector or government website projects in South Africa.
  • Experience migrating research statistical or publication-heavy content sets.
  • Certification in records/information management (IGP CRM AIIM CIP) or relevant platform certifications.
  • Experience with OCR/digitisation and PDF remediation at volume.
  • Contactable references from at least two completed migration projects of similar scope.
