About The Bursary:
Location: South Africa (Recognised South African Universities)
Fields of Study: Economics (and related fields) & Public Health
Academic Level: Postgraduate only (Honours or Masters Degree)

The Genesis Educational Fund Trust bursary is the educational arm of Genesis Analytics - a leading impact and strategy consultancy. The principal objective of GEFT is to support initiatives that promote the educational and professional development of young people from previously disadvantaged backgrounds as described in the Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998 primarily in the fields of economics (and related disciplines) and public health. The GEFT bursary is offered to eligible young South African students to study towards their Honours or Masters degree in these overarching fields at a recognised South African university.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Citizenship: Must be a South African Citizen
- Background: The bursary is earmarked for candidates who come from previously disadvantaged backgrounds as described by the Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998
- Academic Performance: A consistent academic average of 65% or higher across your undergraduate (and Honours if applying for a Masters) studies.
What the Bursary Covers:
The bursary primarily covers tuition fees books and required stationery. On a case-by-case basis and depending on a number of factors GEFT may also provide support for additional needs such as accommodation living allowances and transport.
Key Dates and Timelines:
- Applications Open: 3 August 2026
- Applications Close: 21 August 2026
- Shortlisted Candidates: will be contacted by 26 August 2026
- Bursary Awarded For: Successful candidates will be awarded bursaries to study approved degrees as mentioned above in the academic year of 2027.

- Full Academic Transcripts: Consolidated into a single PDF document covering all undergraduate (and postgraduate if you will be applying for a Masters degree) results to date.
- Writing Sample: A recent academic submission (assignment essay or research proposal) from the current academic year solely authored by you.
