About Our Client
Our client is a leading provider of independent medical reports and occupational health support. Established in 2003 and headquartered in Durham this company serves over 800 individual companies.

Purpose of the Role
The EAP Counsellor provides confidential short-term counselling support to employees across client organisations as part of the Employee Assistance Programme. The role supports employees experiencing a wide range of personal emotional or work- related difficulties with the aim of improving mental health wellbeing and workplace performance.

Duties and Responsilities
  • Provide front line in the moment support to individuals via telephone.
  • Provide short term solution focused counselling to individuals via telephone or video.
  • Conduct initial assessments to identify presenting issues risk factors appropriate interventions and suitability for EAP services.
  • Develop and agree support plans collaboratively with clients in line with EAP service protocols
  • Refer clients to external services (e.g. GP specialist mental health services financial or legal support) as appropriate.
  • Manage clinical risk appropriately following safeguarding protocols where required.
  • Manage a caseload of clients requiring structured counselling.
  • Maintain accurate timely and confidential case records in line with GDPR and clinical governance policies.
  • Complete clinical documentation session notes and outcome measures as per service requirements.
  • Contribute to reporting requirements by providing anonymised data and case summaries as needed.
  • Adhere to ethical frameworks and standards of the relevant professional body (e.g. BACP UKCP NCS).
  • Participate in regular clinical supervision as required by the service and professional guidelines.
  • Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) to maintain up-to-date knowledge of therapeutic approaches and mental health trends.
  • Support delivery of wellbeing-related content such as psychoeducational webinars workshops and wellbeing campaigns when required.
  • Liaise with internal teams and external client organisations to promote mental health awareness and appropriate use of the EAP.
  • Attend team meeting training sessions and case consultations as part of ongoing service development.
  • Add and contribute to continuous service improvement and quality assurance activities.
  • Stay up to date with best practice and developments in counselling mental health and EAP services.
Qualifications & Professional Requirements
  • Recognised qualification in Counselling or Psychotherapy at diploma level or higher
  • Current registration or accreditation with a recognised UK professional body (e.g. BACP UKCP NCS) Preferred
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and risk management in a mental health setting
Experience
  • Minimum of two years post-qualification counselling experience
  • Experience providing short-term solution-focused interventions
  • Experience working within an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) or workplace counselling context
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Competent in the use of digital platforms for remote counselling and record-keeping
  • Ability to work flexibly including occasional early mornings or evenings to meet service needs
  • Ability to communicate clearly and make sound clinical and professional judgements
