Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer Power Protection to join its specialist engineering team. This role is ideal for an engineer with expertise in power system protection protection relay design testing commissioning and electrical network studies. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the reliability safety and performance of medium- and high-voltage electrical systems across industrial mining utility and infrastructure projects.

Working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams you will be responsible for developing protection philosophies performing power system studies commissioning protection schemes and providing technical support throughout the project lifecycle.

Duties & Responsibilities

This role is ideal for an engineer with expertise in power system protection protection relay design testing commissioning and electrical network studies. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the reliability safety and performance of medium- and high-voltage electrical systems across industrial mining utility and infrastructure projects.
Working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams you will be responsible for developing protection philosophies performing power system studies commissioning protection schemes and providing technical support throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop protection schemes for LV MV and HV electrical power systems.
Perform protection coordination studies and relay setting calculations.
Conduct power system analysis including:
- Load flow studies
- Short circuit studies
- Arc flash assessments
- Motor starting studies
- Protection coordination
Prepare protection philosophies single-line diagrams schematics and engineering documentation.
Specify protection relays switchgear current transformers (CTs) voltage transformers (VTs) and associated equipment.
Review vendor documentation and ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.
Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) site acceptance testing (SAT) and commissioning activities.
Troubleshoot protection system faults and provide technical support during commissioning and plant operations.
Liaise with clients contractors OEMs and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Ensure compliance with relevant IEC NRS Eskom and SANS standards.

Minimum Requirements

BEng/BSc/BTech in Electrical Engineering.
Professional registration with ECSA (Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng) is advantageous.
Minimum 510 years experience in electrical power systems and protection engineering.
Experience in mining utilities industrial plants renewable energy or EPC projects will be highly advantageous.
Valid drivers licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
