Key Responsibilities
- Develop maintain and validate electrical network models using DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
- Perform detailed power system studies including:
- Load flow analysis
- Short-circuit calculations
- Voltage-drop studies
- Contingency analysis
- Fault level assessments
- Protection coordination
- Motor starting studies
- Harmonic analysis
- Transient and dynamic stability studies
- Reactive power and voltage-control studies
- Develop models for solar PV wind battery energy storage and other generation technologies.
- Analyse transmission distribution and industrial electrical networks.
- Perform grid-connection and grid-compliance studies.
- Assess network capacity and identify potential system constraints.
- Investigate voltage fault-level thermal and stability issues.
- Prepare technical reports and engineering study documentation.
- Interpret utility and client network data and convert this information into accurate PowerFactory models.
- Validate simulation results against available operational or measured data.
- Support the preparation of grid connection applications and technical submissions.
- Assist with network planning and system optimisation.
- Provide technical input into electrical design and renewable-energy projects.
- Liaise with clients utilities consultants project teams and other engineering disciplines.
- Ensure all modelling and engineering work complies with applicable South African grid codes NRS requirements utility standards and relevant IEC/SANS standards.
- Provide technical support during project development commissioning and troubleshooting.
Minimum Requirements
- BEng / BSc / BTech in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience in electrical power systems engineering.
- Strong practical experience using DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
- Solid understanding of power system modelling and analysis.
- Experience performing electrical network studies.
- Good understanding of transmission and/or distribution networks.
- Knowledge of protection systems and electrical equipment.
- Understanding of grid connection requirements and power quality.
- Strong analytical and report-writing capabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Valid drivers licence and willingness to travel when required.
