Electrical Design Engineer Renewable Energy

Our client is seeking a motivated Electrical Design Engineer to join their renewable energy team in Cape Town. This opportunity is ideal for an engineer with strong electrical design experience and a passion for delivering high-quality engineering solutions across renewable energy and electrical infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop concept and detailed electrical designs for renewable energy projects
• Design medium-voltage collector systems including cable and overhead line solutions
• Contribute to IPP substation primary plant design and engineering
• Prepare earthing and lightning protection designs and analyses
• Produce single-line diagrams schematics layouts calculations and detailed engineering drawings
• Design and analyse MV and LV electrical systems
• Participate in project planning technical reviews and multidisciplinary design coordination
• Provide technical support during project execution installation testing and commissioning
• Conduct site investigations and resolve technical design challenges
• Prepare technical specifications and evaluate supplier quotations and technical submissions
• Ensure all designs comply with applicable standards regulations client requirements and quality procedures
• Contribute to design improvements standardisation and engineering innovation

Requirements:

• BEng or Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Minimum of 35 years experience in electrical design engineering preferably within renewable energy
• Experience in distribution renewable energy or electrical infrastructure projects
• Professional registration with ECSA or eligibility for registration will be advantageous
• Strong knowledge of electrical system design and analysis
• Experience with cable sizing and routing design
• Knowledge of earthing and lightning protection design
• Experience using PLS-CADD and CDEGS XGSLab or similar earthing analysis software
• Knowledge of relevant South African electrical standards and regulations
• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite
• Valid drivers licence
