ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Cook is responsible for planning preparing and serving nutritious high-quality meals for the vessels crew while ensuring compliance with all food safety hygiene and health standards. The role involves maintaining a clean safe and well-organised galley managing food supplies and inventory and ensuring adequate provisioning for each voyage to support the wellbeing and operational needs of the crew.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Meal planning and preparation:
Preparing daily menus accommodating dietary requirements and cooking meals as scheduled
- Galley hygiene and safety:
Complying with food safety and maritime regulations
- Stock control and ordering:
Monitoring stock levels rotating provisions and placing orders as required
- Recordkeeping and reporting:
Completing meal logs stock records and maintaining cleaning schedules
- Crew support and communication:
Communicating mealtimes and addressing requests or concerns
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 10 or equivalent
- SAMSA Certificate of Proficiency: Efficient Cook
- Minimum 2 4 years experience preparing meals onboard on vessels
- Knowledge of hygiene and food safety standards relevant to vessels
- Knowledge and understanding of basic nutrition and portion control
