PURPOSE
To provide specialist compliance expertise oversight and advisory support across the business in ensuring adherence to all relevant legislation regulatory requirements internal policies and governance frameworks. The role contributes to safeguarding the organisations reputation reducing compliance risk and enabling ethical sustainable business practices.
You will engage with the following stakeholders:
Internal
- Manager: Compliance - direct reporting line and strategic alignment.
- Exco and Senior Leadership - advisory input on compliance risks regulatory updates and governance.
- Legal & Risk Teams - alignment on regulatory requirements risk mitigation and legal interpretation.
- Finance - ensuring financial compliance anti-money laundering controls and reporting accuracy.
- Operations & Technology - embedding compliance in processes IT controls data protection and system changes.
- Human Capital - compliance awareness training and policies (e.g. POPIA ethics workplace regulations).
- All Business Units - ensuring adherence to compliance frameworks and integration into day-to-day activities.
External
- Regulatory Bodies - SARB FSCA FIC Information Regulator and other relevant authorities.
- Auditors (Internal & External) - compliance audits and assurance processes.
- Industry Associations / Forums - keeping abreast of sector developments and best practice.
- Vendors & Partners - ensuring third-party compliance with PayIncs regulatory obligations.
Your key responsibilities include:
Regulatory Compliance & Advisory
- Monitor and interpret regulatory developments laws and industry standards relevant to the business.
- Advise management and business units on compliance implications of new and existing regulations.
- Develop and maintain compliance frameworks policies and procedures in line with best practice.
- Management of the PFMI framework and business as usual process
Risk Identification & Mitigation
- Conduct compliance risk assessments and identify gaps in processes and controls.
- Recommend and implement mitigation actions.
- Escalate material compliance risks to the Manager: Compliance and relevant governance forums.
Monitoring Reporting & Assurance
- Oversee implementation of compliance monitoring plans across divisions.
- Track investigate and report on breaches exceptions and non-compliance.
- Prepare reports for governance structures regulators and Exco ensuring accurate and timely submissions.
Training & Awareness
- Drive compliance awareness campaigns across the business.
- Deliver targeted training sessions on compliance requirements policies and ethical practices.
- Act as a subject matter expert and mentor on compliance issues.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to embed compliance into operational processes.
- Engage with regulators auditors and external stakeholders as required.
- Build collaborative relationships to strengthen the compliance culture.
Key Deliverables
- Up-to-date compliance framework and policies.
- Regular compliance monitoring and risk assessment reports.
- Clear communication of compliance obligations to stakeholders.
- Evidence of reduced compliance risks and improved organisational governance.
- Assist with the Combined Assurance approach as a member of the Combined Assurance Forum (CAF) in collaboration with other internal assurance providers.
- Accountable for the design implementation and continuous improvement of the compliance management framework
- Leads business-wide compliance initiatives and regulatory change responses
- Provides strategic advice to senior leadership and governance forums on emerging compliance risks
- Exercises independent judgement on complex regulatory interpretation and risk-based compliance decisions
- Influences executive decision-making to ensure regulatory compliance is embedded in strategic and operational plans
- Owns compliance monitoring priorities risk-based interventions and remediation oversight
- Protects the organisations licence to operate by ensuring regulatory readiness and effective control environments
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE
- Minimum: Relevant bachelors degree (Law Compliance Risk Management or equivalent).
- Preferred: Postgraduate qualification and/or Certified Compliance Professional (CPrac or similar).
EXPERIENCE
- 57 years experience in a compliance environment preferably in financial services payments or banking sector.
- In-depth knowledge of local regulatory landscape (e.g. FIC Act POPIA Companies Act SARB directives Payments legislation/regulations PFMI).
