Civil Design Engineer Consulting Industry

A leading engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Civil Design Engineer to join its civil infrastructure team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer with proven experience in the design and delivery of roads stormwater bulk earthworks water and sewer infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will be a professionally registered Civil Engineer / Technologist with strong design-office experience and a proven track record in civil infrastructure. Particular emphasis will be placed on advanced Civil 3D and IDAS capability together with hands-on experience in roads stormwater bulk earthworks water and sewer infrastructure.

The successful candidate will take a leading role in developing high-quality civil infrastructure designs technical documentation drawings and contract documentation with AutoCAD Civil 3D and IDAS forming an important part of the design environment.

• Lead the geometric and detailed design of roads including:
  • Alignments
  • Cross-sections
  • Intersections
  • Pavement design
  • Road rehabilitation and new construction
• Design stormwater management and drainage systems including:
  • Drainage networks
  • Attenuation ponds
  • Channels
  • Culvert sizing
  • Hydraulic modelling
• Undertake bulk earthworks design balancing and optimisation for large infrastructure projects.
• Design gravity and pressurised pipelines for water sewer and stormwater infrastructure.
• Undertake hydraulic analysis and profile design for pipeline systems.
• Utilise AutoCAD Civil 3D to develop surfaces corridors assemblies pipe networks drawings and quantities.
• Use IDAS as part of the civil infrastructure design process.
• Prepare detailed engineering design reports and contract documentation.
• Coordinate designs with structural geotechnical electrical and other engineering disciplines.
• Provide technical guidance support and mentoring to junior engineers.
• Attend site visits design meetings and client presentations as required.
• Ensure all designs comply with applicable South African standards and local authority requirements.

• BEng / BTech in Civil Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years relevant experience.
• Professional registration as Pr. Eng. / Pr. Tech.
• Proven advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D including:
  • Corridors
  • Assemblies
  • Surfaces
  • Pipe networks
  • Quantities
• Strong working knowledge of IDAS.
• Extensive experience in:
  • Road design including rehabilitation and new construction
  • Stormwater drainage and management
  • Bulk earthworks design and optimisation
  • Gravity pipeline design
  • Pressurised water and sewer pipeline design
  • Hydraulic analysis and profile design
• Valid drivers licence and own transport.

• Thorough understanding of South African civil engineering design standards.
• Knowledge of local authority requirements and approval processes.
• Strong design optimisation and problem-solving ability.
• Excellent technical report-writing skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical deliverables.
• Ability to coordinate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Strong mentoring and technical leadership capabilities.
