Contract Type: Independent Contractor

Salary Range: $7000 $9500 USD per month base salary (Final offer is at the clients discretion based on interview performance skills and experience)

About the Role

As the Chief Operating Officer (COO) you will serve as the principal operating executive and strategic partner to the CEO holding total operational accountability for company performance site execution and multi-community scaling. You will directly direct the complete homebuilding value chainincluding field construction trade scheduling purchasing land development preconstruction sales and warranty operations.

We are seeking a battle-tested COO or VP of Operations who has hands-on experience running construction trade networks and scheduling across multiple active residential developments. You will build and optimize enterprise operating systems drive functional accountability and execute aggressive market expansion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership & Execution: Partner with the CEO to refine and execute the multi-year strategic vision and annual operating plan holding business unit leaders accountable for starts completion schedules closings gross margins and cash flow.

  • Core Construction & Field Operations: Direct end-to-end homebuilding operations including vertical construction trade partner scheduling purchasing/estimating and quality assurance across all active communities.

  • Enterprise Governance & Cadence: Establish and enforce enterprise-wide KPIs executive scorecards operational cadences and cross-departmental performance frameworks.

  • Executive Team Leadership: Direct and mentor senior functional leads across Construction Land Development Purchasing Sales & Marketing and Finance Operations.

  • Multi-Market Expansion: Architect and execute operational strategies for scaling into new regional marketsassessing trade capacity launch sequencing subcontractor network buildout and structural controls prior to breaking ground.

  • Financial & Cost Control Oversight: Oversee job costing accuracy project budget reconciliations working capital efficiency and gross margin protection across all developments.

  • Systems Architecture & SOPs: Standardize enterprise-wide systems (Buildertrend CRM Cloud ERP) and standard operating procedures to enforce data integrity process compliance and seamless reporting.

  • Enterprise Risk Management: Oversee comprehensive risk mitigation contract enforcement safety standards trade partner performance and critical escalation protocols.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required:

  • Executive Operational Experience: Minimum 810 years of senior executive leadership (Chief Operating Officer VP of Operations or Division President) at a residential homebuilder or real estate developer.

  • Multi-Community Field Operations: Direct experience driving homebuilder operationsspecifically managing construction execution purchasing/estimating and trade scheduling across multiple active residential communities.

  • Proven Track Record of Scaling: Demonstrated success scaling a homebuilding company across multiple developments or regional markets while maintaining P&L accountability and operational margins.

  • Full Project Lifecycle Mastery: Deep operational knowledge across every stage of developmentacquisition entitlements vertical construction sales finance operations and warranty.

  • Organizational Design & Leadership: Exceptional track record in executive team building organizational design performance management and scaling corporate culture.

  • Enterprise Systems Proficiency: Deep hands-on experience leveraging homebuilding platforms (e.g. Buildertrend Procore Cloud ERPs/CRMs) and BI reporting dashboards to manage operations.

Preferred:

  • US Market Expertise: Direct experience managing operations trade networks or business units within the US residential homebuilding market.

  • Advanced Education: MBA or Masters degree in Construction Management Real Estate Business Administration or Finance.
