Job Summary

As Blasting Assistant your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

 

Safety Health and Environment:

  • Adhere to all safety and health standards and continuously promote good housekeeping.
  • Active participation in SLAMs HPHs relevant Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.

Blasting Assistance:

  • Assist extraction craft workers such as earth drillers and operators to ensure successful blasting operations compliance with the necessary procedures specifications requirements and timeframe whilst seeking to prevent injuries or damage to assets.
  • Inspect the blasting area and signal workers to clear the area to prevent injuries and damage to assets and ensure that operations occur safely within prescribed processes procedures and standards.

Equipment Maintenance:

  • Conduct the necessary repairs and maintenance of automotive and drilling equipment to ensure availability
  • Observed and monitored equipment operations during and after extraction to identify problems and initiate the necessary action to prevent equipment damage.
  • Operate auxiliary equipment to assist when required.

Materials Transportation:

  • Arrange and prepare the materials required for blasting operations and drive manoeuvre and navigate moving / mechanised equipment and vehicles to transport materials and parts to excavation sites.
  • Unload materials devices and machine parts into sound holes or equipment using hand tools to assist in the necessary blasting preparations.

Assistance:

  • Assist the supervisor and co-workers according to their level/area of competence and follow company policies when instructed or during the responsible persons absence to ensure the achievement of functional objectives.

This role is in Mining (MIN) department on a Band P6 (B-Upper) level reporting to the Shift Supervisor.


Qualifications :

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Competency A: an introduction to understanding safe declarations from Miners/Blasters is preferred
  • SA Drivers Licence Code B

Technical Knowledge

  • Possess the necessary proficiency to be trained to operate auxiliary equipment. This aligns with the career path and succession planning goals of the Drill & Blast department.
  • Knowledge of Safety standards.
  • Understanding blasting procedures.
  • Familiarity with equipment maintenance practices.
