Job Summary

Role

The Asset Manager oversees the financial lifecycle of the organisations long-term tangible assets. This role ensures accurate accounting compliance and strategic capital allocation for land buildings machinery and equipment. Accountable for managing the Groupwide asset management function ensuring that assets are governed throughout their lifecycle to maximise value minimise risk support operational performance and maintain regulatory compliance.


Core Responsibilities

1. Capital Budgeting & Investment Analysis

  • Responsible for budget and Capital Expenditure (CapEx) requests
  • Provide data-driven recommendations to leadership on whether to buy lease or build major assets.
  • Conduct post-implementation reviews to verify if completed projects delivered the promised financial returns.
  • Ensure all capital investments align with long-term corporate growth and sustainability strategies.

2. Fixed Asset Lifecycle Accounting

  • Record the acquisition capitalization transfer and disposal of all fixed assets in the ERP system.
  • Establish and apply accurate depreciation schedules across asset classes based on useful life and salvage values.
  • Perform regular assessments for asset impairment and execute financial write-downs when asset values permanently drop.
  • Oversee the Capital Work-in-Progress (CWIP) account ensuring projects are capitalised promptly upon completion.

3. Risk Management & Physical Governance

  • Formulate and update corporate asset management policies including capitalisation thresholds and disposal protocols
  • Design and execute the annual tracking and physical verification schedule for all fixed assets across locations.
  • Collaborate with risk management to ensure adequate insurance coverage for high-value properties and machinery.
  • Tag and log physical assets into the tracking software to prevent theft loss or unauthorised transfers.


4. Compliance Audit & Reporting

  • Ensure strict adherence to accounting standards regarding fixed asset capitalisation rules.
  • Lead all internal and external audit procedures related to the fixed asset register depreciation and disposals.
  • Ensure Asset compliance reporting

5. Decision Making

The incumbent is expected to independently make decisions including but not limited to:

Asset lifecycle strategies Asset Verification programs Asset replacement priorities Disposal recommendations Asset utilisation optimisation Asset Governance control Policies and Standard Operating Procedures

Escalations are generally limited to major capital investments policy approval and significant financial implications.



Requirements

Job Requirements & Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Finance Accounting Economics or a related discipline.
  • Professional Certification (e.g. CIMA or CFA) is highly advantageous.
  • 5 years of direct experience in fixed asset accounting corporate finance or capital budgeting.

Technical & Soft Skills

  • Deep knowledge of capitalization rules depreciation methods and asset impairment testing under IFRS
  • Expert-level proficiency in asset management systems
  • Strong financial modeling skills in Microsoft Excel for calculating NPV IRR and forecasting asset lifecycles.
  • Excellent communication skills for explaining complex financial risks to technical engineering and operational teams.



Required Skills:

Knowledge of basic networking concepts (TCP/IP Wi-Fi DNS). Experience with Microsoft 365 (SharePoint OneDrive Exchange). Excellent written and verbal communication skills for explaining technical issues to non-technical staff. CompTIA A or any similar certificates is a plus


Required Education:

National Diploma or a Bachelors degree program in Information Technology
