Job Summary
Our Megabus Depot - seeks to employ a qualified Diesel Mechanic.
The incumbent will be responsible for the servicing diagnosing maintaining and the repairing of all mechanical aspects of the fleet of vehicle operating out of the Depot.
Duties & Responsibilities
Servicing and Preventative Maintenance
- Service depot fleet in accordance with predefined service schedules and inspection checklists.
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance to identify potential mechanical issues before failure occurs.
- Ensure all servicing activities comply with manufacturer specifications and company standards.
- Maintain accurate service and maintenance records.
Breakdown Response and Repairs
- Attend to breakdowns and carry out fault finding diagnostics and repairs on diesel-powered vehicles and earth moving equipment.
- Perform mechanical repairs on engines transmissions braking systems hydraulics and auxiliary systems.
- Test equipment after repairs to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Provide breakdown support during operational or peak production periods as required.
Health Safety and Compliance
- Apply occupational health and safety rules and regulations in all aspects of work.
- Ensure all mechanical work is performed safely including isolation of systems and use of required PPE.
- Maintain vehicles and equipment in line with legal requirements and company policies (e.g. roadworthy standards licensing and statutory inspections).
- Report unsafe conditions incidents defects or near misses promptly to the Supervisor.
Vehicle and Equipment Compliance
- Ensure fleet/company vehicles and equipment remain compliant with statutory regulations roadworthiness requirements and internal standards.
- Identify non-compliance risks and implement corrective actions where possible.
- Support audits inspections and statutory checks related to vehicle and equipment compliance.
Workshop Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean safe and orderly working environment at all times.
- Ensure tools equipment and work areas are correctly stored and free of hazards.
- Contribute to safe working practices and good housekeeping within the workshop.
Reporting and Administration
- Complete job cards service reports and breakdown documentation accurately and timeously.
- Provide regular feedback and reports to management regarding services completed breakdowns attended to and outstanding repairs.
- Record parts used labour time and follow-up requirements in accordance with workshop procedures.
Ancillary and Support Duties
- Perform ancillary or related duties as reasonably required by management from time to time.
- Assist other artisans and technical staff with mechanical tasks where required.
- Support workshop objectives relating to safety productivity quality and continuous improvement.
Minimum Requirements
- Qualified Diesel Mechanic - trade certification
- A minimum of 3-5 years experience of working on Mercedes Benz Volvo Scania or MAN vehicles
- Strong Diesel engine and mechanical repair skill
- Fault-finding and diagnostic capability
- Must be computer literate
- Ability to work independently and accurately
- Problem solving ability
- Valid drivers licence
- Own transport
