Engineering Manager
Job Summary
What You Do
As Engineering Manager you will lead software engineering teams in developing next-generation AI capabilities and shared enterprise services. You will provide strategic and hands-on leadership for the AI-Know Ecosystem and Shared Modules & API Services ensuring that secure scalable and reusable solutions support the University’s digital transformation. With end-to-end accountability for engineering excellence you will align technology people and delivery with the organisation’s strategic priorities.
Lead and Develop Engineering Teams
- Lead coach and inspire software engineering teams comprising 5 to 10 direct reports.
- Foster a culture of innovation ownership collaboration and technical excellence.
- Mentor engineers strengthen their capabilities and help resolve complex technical challenges.
Shape the AI and Engineering Roadmap
- Own and drive the engineering roadmap for the AI-Know Ecosystem and Shared Modules & API Services.
- Evolve AI-Know beyond RAG-based chat into a comprehensive AI platform with reusable capabilities.
- Partner with architecture teams to ensure the technical roadmap is scalable future-ready and aligned with the wider enterprise ecosystem.
Drive Solution Delivery and Engineering Quality
- Direct the end-to-end architecture design and implementation of complex software and AI solutions.
- Manage delivery priorities timelines and resources across concurrent workstreams balancing feature development with technical debt.
- Champion engineering best practices across coding code reviews testing performance assurance and production support.
- Collaborate with product owners and quality assurance teams to translate business needs into reliable high-quality solutions.
Strengthen DevSecOps and Operational Excellence
- Partner with DevOps teams to design and integrate automated CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
- Embed automated security scanning and security-first practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Ensure solutions meet established performance reliability quality and security standards.
Engage Stakeholders and Advance Innovation
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for project teams management and key stakeholders.
- Provide clear data-driven updates on delivery progress technical risks and mitigation measures.
- Monitor emerging AI and engineering trends and champion the responsible adoption of technologies that create value for NUS.
Who You Are
Must Have
Qualifications and Leadership
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science Information Technology or a related discipline.
- At least 10 years of experience in software development and engineering leadership including delivery across a minimum of three complete software development life cycles.
- Proven experience building leading and developing multiple engineering teams with direct people-management responsibility.
- Strong strategic thinking problem-solving and risk-management capabilities.
- Effective stakeholder-management and communication skills with the ability to align technical roadmaps and delivery priorities with organisational goals.
- A collaborative hands-on leadership style that fosters accountability innovation and technical excellence.
Technical Capabilities
- Strong experience across modern frontend and backend development technologies such as JavaScript/TypeScript Angular or / Core Java or Python.
- Proven expertise in cloud-native development microservices and containerisation.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases including Oracle or SQL Server and experience with modern data stores such as Cosmos DB or vector databases.
- Hands-on experience with AI technologies including Azure OpenAI RAG architectures agentic AI frameworks vector search and prompt engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to translate AI technologies into secure scalable production-grade and reusable services.
- Practical experience with DevSecOps workflows software quality practices and secure software delivery.
Nice to Have
- Working knowledge of Flutter or hybrid mobile application development.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps and observability tools such as Azure DevOps Jenkins Fortify SonarQube or Splunk.
- Experience with test automation performance testing or load testing using tools such as WebdriverIO Katalon or JMeter.
