Job Summary
An experienced Electrical Technician responsible for the installation inspection troubleshooting and maintenance of explosion-proof (Ex-rated) electrical equipment in industrial environments. The role ensures all activities are performed safely in compliance with hazardous area standards and with minimal disruption to operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on explosion-proof electrical equipment including:
- Pumps and associated motors
- Industrial heaters
- Distribution boards and control panels
- Troubleshoot electrical faults in hazardous area equipment and restore functionality in a timely manner.
- Inspect and maintain Ex-rated equipment in compliance with applicable standards (e.g. IECEx ATEX).
- Verify integrity of explosion-proof enclosures cable glands conduit systems and earthing arrangements.
- Carry out testing activities such as insulation resistance (IR) continuity and functional testing.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings single-line diagrams and wiring schematics.
- Ensure proper selection and installation of certified Ex components and materials.
- Participate in shutdowns commissioning and start-up activities.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records reports and work permits.
- Adhere strictly to safety procedures including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and confined space entry requirements.
- Support mobilization/demobilization of tools and equipment for site activities.
- At site troubleshooting problem solving and make sure all equipment are running.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Technical Certification in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in industrial electrical maintenance preferably in oil & gas petrochemical or hazardous environments.
- Hands-on experience with explosion-proof (Ex) equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with international standards such as IEC NEC ATEX or IECEx.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of hazardous area classifications and protection methods (Ex d Ex e Ex i etc.).
- Experience in diagnosing faults in motors heaters and electrical distribution systems.
- Ability to use electrical testing instruments (multimeter megger clamp meter).
- Good understanding of cable termination gland installation and earthing systems.
Testing & Documentation
- Perform electrical testing including:
- Insulation Resistance (IR) testing
- Continuity and earth resistance testing
- Functional and operational testing
- Read and interpret:
- Single-line diagrams (SLD)
- Wiring diagrams and loop drawings
- P&IDs related to electrical interfaces
- Prepare and maintain:
- Inspection reports
- Test records
- Daily work reports and punch lists
Safety & Compliance
- Strong awareness of HSE practices in hazardous areas.
- Experience with permit-to-work systems.
- Knowledge of risk assessment and job safety analysis (JSA).
Soft Skills
- Problem-solving and analytical thinking.
- Ability to work under pressure and during emergency breakdowns.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
