Job Summary

We are seeking experienced Infrared (IR) Thermography Engineers to support condition monitoring and reliability activities for electrical transmission and distribution substations.

The successful candidates will be responsible for conducting infrared thermographic inspections of high-voltage electrical equipment identifying thermal anomalies and potential equipment defects analysing thermographic data and preparing accurate technical reports.

The role requires strong practical knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution systems high-voltage equipment infrared thermography condition monitoring and electrical safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct infrared (IR) thermographic inspections at electrical transmission and distribution substations.

  • Perform condition monitoring activities in accordance with approved procedures method statements standards and project requirements.

  • Inspect high-voltage electrical equipment and identify abnormal heating hotspots thermal anomalies and potential defects.

  • Analyse thermal images and inspection data to assess the condition and performance of electrical assets.

  • Identify potential failures at an early stage and recommend appropriate corrective or preventive actions.

  • Immediately report critical thermal abnormalities and equipment conditions to the Team Leader / Supervisor.

  • Prepare accurate and detailed thermography inspection reports findings records and technical documentation.

  • Maintain proper records of inspections thermal images measurements and identified abnormalities.

  • Operate infrared cameras and associated thermographic equipment safely and effectively.

  • Ensure thermographic equipment is properly handled maintained and used in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.

  • Follow approved HSE procedures electrical safety requirements and Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems.

  • Ensure inspection activities are carried out without causing damage to plant equipment or electrical installations.

  • Coordinate with electrical maintenance reliability and other multidisciplinary teams during inspection activities.

  • Participate in technical safety and professional development training as required.

  • Perform other condition-monitoring and inspection duties as assigned by the Team Leader.

Required Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in electrical condition monitoring.

  • Proven hands-on experience conducting IR thermographic inspections of transmission and distribution substations.

  • Experience inspecting high-voltage electrical equipment using infrared thermography.

  • Strong understanding of electrical transmission and distribution systems.

  • Experience identifying and evaluating thermal abnormalities in electrical equipment.

  • Experience working in utility power transmission power distribution electrical maintenance or condition-monitoring environments is highly preferred.

Technical Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong practical knowledge of Infrared Thermography / IR Thermography.

  • Ability to interpret and analyse thermographic images and thermal patterns.

  • Ability to identify hotspots abnormal temperature variations loose connections overloaded components poor contacts and other potential electrical defects.

  • Good understanding of HV/MV electrical equipment and substations.

  • Knowledge of electrical condition-monitoring techniques and reliability practices.

  • Ability to prepare clear and technically accurate inspection reports.

  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards procedures and best practices for electrical asset condition monitoring.

  • Ability to operate and maintain infrared thermography cameras and related inspection equipment.

Typical Equipment / Assets Inspected

Experience with thermographic inspection of equipment such as:

  • Power transformers

  • Circuit breakers

  • Isolators / disconnectors

  • CTs and PTs / instrument transformers

  • Busbars and busbar connections

  • Cable terminations and joints

  • Switchgear and switchboards

  • Electrical panels

  • Power cables

  • Battery and DC systems

  • Other HV/MV electrical equipment

HSE Responsibilities
  • Strictly follow all company and project HSE policies and procedures.

  • Comply with electrical safety requirements when working around HV/MV installations.

  • Follow Permit-to-Work isolation access and site safety requirements.

  • Use appropriate PPE and safety equipment at all times.

  • Maintain safe distances and follow approved procedures while inspecting energised equipment.

  • Immediately report unsafe conditions incidents and equipment abnormalities.

  • Ensure all inspection activities are performed safely and professionally.

Educational Qualifications
  • Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a recognised university or technical institution.

  • Relevant Infrared Thermography / Thermography certification will be an advantage.

  • Additional condition-monitoring or electrical inspection certifications will be preferred.

Preferred Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be an experienced IR Thermography Engineer / Thermography Engineer / Electrical Condition Monitoring Engineer with at least 5 years of hands-on experience in thermographic inspection of HV/MV transmission and distribution substations.

Candidates with strong exposure to electrical condition monitoring thermal imaging HV equipment inspection power utilities substations and reliability/maintenance activities will be highly preferred.
