Job Purpose:

The Clinical Terminology Specialist is responsible for managing maintaining and standardizing clinical terminology systems used within healthcare applications and electronic medical records (EMR/EHR). The role ensures accurate coding mapping and integration of clinical data standards to support patient care reporting interoperability and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Terminology Management
  • Maintain and update standardized clinical terminology systems such as ICD SNOMED CT CPT LOINC and other healthcare coding standards.
  • Ensure accurate mapping between medical terminologies and healthcare information systems.
  • Review and validate clinical data for consistency completeness and accuracy.
  • Support terminology governance and data standardization initiatives.
System & Data Support
  • Collaborate with IT clinical and informatics teams to integrate terminology standards into healthcare systems.
  • Assist in EMR/EHR configuration testing and validation related to clinical terminology.
  • Monitor terminology updates and implement required system modifications.
  • Troubleshoot terminology-related issues within healthcare applications.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations coding standards and organizational policies.
  • Conduct quality checks and audits on coded clinical data.
  • Support reporting and analytics by ensuring accurate terminology usage.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of patient-related information.
Documentation & Training
  • Prepare documentation related to terminology standards mappings and workflows.
  • Provide guidance and training to healthcare staff regarding clinical terminology usage.
  • Participate in meetings workshops and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
Educational Qualification:
  • Bachelors Degree in Health Information Management Medical Informatics Nursing Pharmacy Life Sciences or related field.
  • Certification in clinical coding or health informatics is preferred.
Experience:
  • Minimum 35 years of experience in clinical terminology medical coding health informatics or healthcare data management.
  • Experience working with EMR/EHR systems and healthcare terminology standards.
  • Familiarity with ICD-10 SNOMED CT LOINC CPT and HL7/FHIR standards preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare workflows.
  • Knowledge of healthcare data standards and interoperability concepts.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and coordination abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and healthcare information systems.
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
