Job Summary
The Assistant Resident Engineer – Road Works supports the Resident Engineer in supervising and coordinating road and infrastructure construction activities. The role ensures that all works are executed according to project specifications approved drawings quality standards safety requirements and project schedules. The ideal candidate should have strong site supervision experience in roads highways and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
Site Supervision & Project Execution
- Assist the Resident Engineer in supervising daily road construction activities.
- Monitor site progress and ensure works are completed according to approved drawings and specifications.
- Supervise contractors subcontractors and site teams during execution.
- Ensure compliance with project schedules and construction methods.
Road & Infrastructure Works
- Supervise road works including:
- Asphalt paving
- Road base and sub-base works
- Kerbstone installation
- Pavements and interlocks
- Drainage and utilities coordination
- Road markings and signage
- Monitor earthworks excavation grading and compaction activities.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure all works comply with project specifications standards and local authority regulations.
- Coordinate inspections and material approvals with QA/QC teams.
- Review test reports related to asphalt concrete soil compaction and materials.
- Ensure proper implementation of approved method statements and ITPs.
Coordination & Reporting
- Coordinate with consultants contractors surveyors and utility authorities.
- Attend site meetings and progress review meetings.
- Prepare daily and weekly progress reports.
- Report delays technical issues and non-conformance matters to the Resident Engineer.
Health Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Ensure contractors comply with HSE requirements and safety regulations.
- Monitor implementation of traffic diversion and road safety measures.
- Participate in safety inspections and toolbox talks.
Documentation & Technical Support
- Review shop drawings RFIs and material submittals.
- Maintain records of inspections site instructions and progress updates.
- Support project closeout and handover documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
Experience
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in road and infrastructure projects.
- GCC experience preferred.
- Experience working with consultants or engineering supervision firms is an advantage.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of road construction standards and specifications.
- Experience in asphalt works grading drainage and utilities coordination.
- Familiarity with local authority requirements and infrastructure regulations.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and technical documents.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office.
Preferred Certifications
- PMP Certification (preferred)
- MMUP/UPDA certification is an advantage
- Road safety or traffic management certification is a plus
