We are looking for an experienced Principal / Senior Mechanical Engineer with a background in UK water utility projects supporting major AMP7/AMP8 capital delivery programmes for water companies across the this role you will lead and support the delivery of mechanical design solutions for water and wastewater treatment pumping stations pipelines and associated infrastructure/non-infrastructure assets working collaboratively within multidisciplinary design teams. As Principal / Senior Mechanical Engineer with a Water Utilities background your primary task will be to deliver engineering work related to the design of elements including water supply and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure equipment. This includes water and wastewater treatment works sludge treatment assets pressurised mains pumping stations chemical dosing systems odour control systems screening plants aeration systems pipework systems and associated mechanical equipment.

Your role will be focused on the design environment which will involve interacting day-to-day with colleagues across our global hubs. There may also be opportunities to broaden your contribution to other areas within the MEP discipline as well as client-side or site-based roles in a variety of major infrastructure settings.

You will contribute across the full project lifecycle including feasibility studies optioneering outline and detailed design construction support commissioning support and technical assurance activities.

You will work closely with UK-based design managers project managers and client teams supporting major UK water company frameworks.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Lead mentor and support the design team by fostering collaboration innovation continuous development and recruitment while coordinating design outputs with wider stakeholders.
  • Oversee end-to-end mechanical design delivery for water and wastewater treatment and pumping station projects ensuring quality compliance technical excellence and timely execution in line with UK/international standards and client specifications.
  • Lead and review technical deliverables including calculations specifications datasheets schedules reports P&IDs design risk assessments and equipment sizing/specification for pumps blowers pipework valves screens chemical dosing and associated mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary activities with civil process electrical ICA and BIM teams including participation in design reviews HAZOPs ALMs constructability reviews and CDM/design safety workshops.
  • Support construction and commissioning activities including contractor queries site inspections and technical guidance while maintaining strong relationships with UK water company clients contractors and supply chain partners.
  • Contribute to business development activities including proposals presentations and wider project growth initiatives.

On top of that youll have:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with 10 years of experience in the UK water sector delivering projects for UK water companies and/or Tier 1 contractors under AMP programmes.
  • Strong experience in mechanical and MEICA design for water and wastewater infrastructure including feasibility studies optioneering detailed design pumping stations treatment processes sludge handling systems and contractor/design support within Design & Build and NEC-based environments.
  • Proven ability to lead disciplines and deliver technically sound solutions including preparation and review of technical specifications equipment schedules datasheets P&IDs design calculations hydraulic and surge analysis pumping system assessments and pipe support/stress calculations.
  • Good understanding of UK water company standards and regulations including CDM Regulations BS/EN standards WIMES health & safety requirements and participation in HAZOP DSEAR and design risk reviews.
  • Experience working within collaborative BIM Level 2 / ISO 19650 environments and multidisciplinary 3D coordination processes; exposure to lifting equipment hydraulic gates and building services would be advantageous.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership with Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) is highly desirable.
