The role

Youll own the reliability performance and scalability of the infrastructure that sophisticated legal teams around the world depend on every day. From cloud to on-prem youll build the automation pipelines and tooling that let Avvoka ship quickly without ever compromising stability.

This is a hands-on high-trust role at the heart of a fast-growing platform - and a chance to help stand up and shape Avvokas new Manila engineering function from the ground twelve months youll be able to point to systems you automated incidents you designed out of existence and infrastructure you helped scale to meet real global demand.

What youll do

Build and automate

• Design provision and maintain infrastructure across Linux virtualization and cloud environments using infrastructure-as code and image-building tooling.
• Build and own CI/CD pipelines in GitLab that make deployments fast repeatable and safe.
• Write automation in Bash and a second language to eliminate manual toil and recurring operational work.

Operate and scale

• Keep Avvokas platform highly available and performant tuning networking capacity and resilience as demand grows. We run KVM and VMs primarily on our own private cloud and also use Azure and occasionally AWS.
• Manage virtualization and provisioning with KVM and Packer to deliver consistent reproducible environments.
• Monitor troubleshoot and resolve production issues then design out the root causes so they dont recur. A key part of this role is maintaining and troubleshooting the platform during hours outside European business time providing coverage while the rest of the team is offline.

Shape and grow

• Help establish reliability practices runbooks and standards for Avvokas growing Manila engineering team.
• Partner with developers to make reliability and observability a first-class part of how we build.

DevOps Work

• Work with Devs Customer Support and across teams to help build internal tooling maintain it manage Sentry reports etc

What youll bring

The ideal candidate would have:

• Strong Ubuntu / Linux system administration experience and a solid grounding in networking.
• Hands-on expertise with virtualization and provisioning - KVM and Packer.
• Proven experience building CI/CD pipelines ideally with GitLab.
• Good working knowledge of Azure and AWS and comfort running workloads on a private cloud.
• Confident Bash scripting plus proficiency in at least one other programming language.
• A reliability mindset - you automate the boring design for failure and care about doing things properly.

Bonus points if you have:

• Experience with Ruby.
