Job Summary
The Company is seeking an experienced Reinforcing Steel Estimator / Scheduler to support a project in Queensland from a remote location overseas. The role involves reviewing consultant issued structural drawings generating reinforcing steel schedules and supporting Head Contract submissions all coordinated electronically with the Queensland project team. A core function of this role is to check schedules generated from consultant documentation against schedules submitted by the Companys reinforcement installer ensuring quantities are accurately reflected and no area of work is over scheduled.
The role also involves comparing the Companys Head Contract drawings against the current issue (amended) drawings to identify design changes and preparing detailed Bills of Quantities outlining those changes to support Head Contract variation submissions.
The ideal candidate has strong experience reading structural engineering drawings and reinforcement schedules with a solid understanding of quantity takeoff cost control and construction documentation processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Quantity Takeoff and Schedule Verification
Review consultant issued structural drawings and specifications to extract reinforcing steel requirements and generate accurate schedules.
Check schedules generated from consultant documentation against schedules submitted by the Companys reinforcement installer identifying and reporting any discrepancies.
Maintain a clear reconciliation record between quantities derived from consultant documentation and quantities submitted by the installer flagging variances to the Contracts Administration team to ensure no area of work is over scheduled.
Track drawing revisions and their impact on reinforcement quantities across the life of each project.
Design Change Review and Bill of Quantities
Compare the Companys Head Contract drawings against current issue (amended) drawings to identify all design changes revisions and scope impacts.
Prepare detailed itemised Bills of Quantities outlining design changes between drawing revisions in a format suitable to support Head Contract variation submissions.
Provide clear well substantiated supporting documentation to the Contracts Administration team for variation claims and Head Contract negotiations.
Project Coordination
Liaise with suppliers consultants and site teams to coordinate reinforcing steel requirements.
Coordinate with the Companys reinforcing supplier and detailing teams to resolve scheduling conflicts and design revisions.
Progress Monitoring
Track project milestones and identify potential schedule or quantity risks.
Prepare periodic reconciliation and variance reports.
Communicate schedule and quantity updates to internal teams.
Recommend solutions to resolve discrepancies and maintain project timelines.
Quality and Compliance
Ensure scheduling and takeoff activities comply with project specifications and company procedures.
Support continuous improvement initiatives within estimating and scheduling processes.
Maintain accurate scheduling records Bills of Quantities and project documentation.
Remote Working Requirements
Must maintain a minimum of 4 to 5 hours of overlap with Queensland business hours (AEST) each working day for meetings coordination calls and query turnaround.
Reliable high speed internet connection and a suitable home office setup capable of supporting video calls large drawing files and cloud based document access.
Comfortable working across Procore Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft 365 and SharePoint for receiving drawings and schedules and collaborating with the Queensland team in real time.
Responsive written and verbal communication in English given the reliance on remote coordination rather than in person site presence.
Availability for periodic video meetings with the Contracts Administration and site teams scheduled to suit the Queensland time zone.
Required Qualifications
Diploma or Bachelors degree in Construction Management Quantity Surveying Civil Engineering or a related field (preferred).
Minimum of 3 years of experience in reinforcement estimating scheduling or quantity surveying within construction.
Strong understanding of reinforcing steel fabrication detailing and installation processes.
Experience interpreting structural drawings reinforcement detailing and bar bending schedules.
Demonstrated experience preparing Bills of Quantities and comparing drawing revisions to identify design and scope changes.
Excellent organisational analytical and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with commercial residential industrial or infrastructure construction projects.
Familiarity with Australian Standards for reinforcing steel.
Experience coordinating precast post tensioning or structural steel projects is an advantage.
Prior exposure to Head Contract administration variation submissions or subcontractor scope reconciliation is highly regarded.
Technical Skills
Estimating and Scheduling
Microsoft Excel (Advanced) essential for schedule building reconciliation and Bill of Quantities preparation.
Bluebeam Revu used for drawing markup takeoff and revision comparison.
Microsoft Project or Primavera P6 (an advantage not essential).
Construction Software
Procore (preferred).
AutoCAD (basic understanding).
Rebar detailing software e.g. ASA Rebar Software SOFiSTiK Reinforcement Detailing or Autodesk Revit (an advantage).
Autodesk Construction Cloud (preferred).
