BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIVISION

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the worlds largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetime. Every day WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable particularly women and children can access the nutritious food they need. The Public Partnerships Division (PPD) within the Partnership and Innovation Department (PI) supports organization-wide efforts to meet the resource needs at corporate and country levels through active engagement with governments and public sector institutions. Within PPD the International Financial Institutions Team (PPD-I) advances WFPs engagement with key IFI institutions and programme countries in order to expand the organizations funding sources at the same time strengthening the national systems in programme countries.

GENERAL INFORMATION

• City and Country of assignment: Manila the Philippines (Note this position will be specifically supporting Asian based IFIs in particular the Asian Development Bank portfolio hence in person location will be Manila the Philippines)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Fellow will contribute to enhancing WFPs positioning with ADB by:

• Generating actionable intelligence on ADB priorities and investments

• Supporting informed engagement with ADB counterparts

• Strengthening internal knowledge-sharing and country-level support

The Fellow will undertake the following tasks by supporting the Lead WFP internal ADB relationship manager:

ADB Intelligence and Analysis

• Analyze ADB corporate strategies sector policies and country partnership strategies (CPS).

• Produce monthly intelligence briefs summarizing key trends priorities and implications for WFP.

Investment Pipeline Tracking

• Monitor ADB project pipelines (sovereign and non-sovereign operations) across priority APARO countries.

• Maintain a regularly updated pipeline tracker identifying potential co-financing and partnership opportunities.

Monitoring of ADB Engagement Opportunities

• Track ADB missions consultations and key events (e.g. Annual Meetings sector dialogues).

• Produce weekly or bi-weekly updates summarizing key developments and engagement opportunities.

Day-to-Day Partnership Support

• Prepare briefing notes talking points and readouts for WFP senior management engagements with ADB.

• Maintain and update ADB stakeholder mapping at HQ and country levels.

Support to Country Offices (COs)

• Provide on-demand desk research and analytical support to COs engaging with ADB in close collaboration with the HQ PPD CO Support Hub.

• Identify country-specific entry points for WFP collaboration in ADB-funded programmes.

Data Analysis and Knowledge Products

• Process and analyse ADB financing data sector allocations and regional trends.

• Develop analytical summaries visuals and dashboards to inform strategic decision-making.

Communication and Knowledge Sharing

• Produce quarterly newsletters on WFPADB engagement opportunities and results.

• Draft briefing materials presentations and case studies highlighting WFPs value proposition.

Internal Coordination and Capacity Building

• Organize internal webinars clinics and knowledge-sharing sessions for WFP teams.

• Capture and disseminate lessons learned and good practices across regions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Advanced university degree (Masters level or equivalent) in international relations public policy development studies economics finance communications or a related field from a recognized institution.

• Excellent written and spoken English (C-level or equivalent) is required. Working knowledge of another UN language (French Spanish Arabic Chinese Russian or Portuguese) is considered an asset.

• Demonstrated academic or professional experience in development finance multilateral development banks (MDBs) or international cooperation preferably in Asia and the Pacific context. Familiarity with ADB operations policies or investment frameworks is highly desirable.

• Strong analytical capacity including ability to synthesize policy documents strategies and investment data into actionable insights.

• Experience with data analysis pipeline tracking and basic data visualization tools and AI is an asset.

• Excellent drafting skills with the ability to produce high-quality briefs reports and communication materials for different audiences.

• Proven ability to develop communication products (newsletters briefs presentations) and support knowledge-sharing initiatives.

• Strong understanding of digital communication and social media tools for outreach and visibility is desirable.

• Strong organizational and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• High attention to detail and commitment to delivering accurate timely and quality outputs.

• Proactive collaborative and client-oriented approach with the ability to support both HQ and country office needs.

• Demonstrated interest in WFPs mandate and a strong motivation to learn about partnerships resource mobilization and MDB / IFI engagement.

• Desire to build up learning about WFPs mission and programmes.

• Understand how WFP is funded and fundraises in support of its Changing Lives Agenda.

Throughout the assignment selected candidates have access to an industry leading learning platform weLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars as appropriate.

LEARNING ELEMENTS

At the end of the assignment the selected candidate should possess in-depth knowledge of key stakeholders involved in international climate finance including their priorities positions and engagement strategies. They should also have demonstrated experience in designing and implementing fundraising and advocacy campaigns ideally within the WFP context.

TYPE OF ASSIGNMENT

This opportunity is particularly well-suited for students or recent graduates seeking practical experience in an international organization. It offers valuable exposure to WFPs operations and the chance to contribute meaningfully to its mission.
