Position Overview

We are seeking a Bookkeeper to support day-to-day financial operations within the insurance and accounting industry. This role is responsible for recording financial transactions maintaining accurate books and supporting documentation processing accounts payable and accounts receivable activities completing reconciliations and assisting with month-end close procedures.

The ideal candidate has strong bookkeeping fundamentals excellent attention to detail and the ability to handle confidential financial information. This position will collaborate with accounting finance underwriting claims billing and operations teams to ensure transactions are processed accurately and on time.

Key Responsibilities
Daily Bookkeeping and Transaction Processing
  • Record and maintain accurate financial transactions in the general ledger and accounting systems.

  • Process accounts payable invoices payment requests expense reports and vendor transactions in accordance with established procedures.

  • Process accounts receivable transactions customer payments deposits and outstanding balances.

  • Prepare and post routine journal entries including accruals prepayments reclassifications and adjustments.

  • Maintain organized and complete documentation for transactions approvals invoices receipts and supporting schedules.

  • Review transactions for accuracy proper coding appropriate approvals and compliance with accounting policies.

Insurance Accounting Support
  • Record and reconcile insurance-related transactions including premiums commissions claims recoveries and policy-related receivables and payables.

  • Review billing policy administration claims and payment data for completeness and accuracy.

  • Assist with the processing and reconciliation of insurance payments refunds adjustments and settlements.

  • Coordinate with underwriting claims billing and operations teams to investigate and resolve transaction differences.

  • Maintain accurate records related to policyholder customer vendor and insurance account activity.

Reconciliations and Financial Reporting Support
  • Complete bank credit card accounts payable accounts receivable general ledger and other account reconciliations.

  • Identify reconciling items research discrepancies and follow up with relevant stakeholders through resolution.

  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities including account reviews supporting schedules and cutoff procedures.

  • Prepare routine bookkeeping reports account summaries aging reports and transaction detail for review.

  • Support the preparation of audit schedules and documentation requested by internal or external auditors.

Controls Compliance and Process Improvement
  • Follow established accounting procedures internal controls and approval requirements.

  • Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive financial customer policyholder and claims information.

  • Assist with data entry reviews financial record cleanup and the resolution of duplicate or incomplete transactions.

  • Identify opportunities to improve bookkeeping workflows documentation reconciliations and transaction processing.

  • Support accounting system updates process documentation and testing activities as needed.

  • Stay current on relevant bookkeeping practices accounting procedures and insurance industry requirements.

Qualifications
Requirements
  • Associates or bachelors degree in Accounting Finance Business Administration or a related field or equivalent practical experience.

  • 1 year of bookkeeping accounting support accounts payable accounts receivable or related financial operations experience.

  • Working knowledge of bookkeeping principles transaction processing account reconciliations and general ledger maintenance.

  • Basic understanding of insurance-related transactions including premiums commissions claims refunds and policy-related payments.

  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and organization.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel including formulas sorting filtering and basic data analysis.

  • Experience using accounting bookkeeping enterprise resource planning (ERP) or financial management systems.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks meet deadlines and follow established procedures.

  • Strong English communication skills both written and verbal.

Preferred
  • Experience supporting bookkeeping or accounting activities in the insurance financial services public accounting or professional services industry.

  • Experience with accounting platforms such as QuickBooks NetSuite SAP Oracle Microsoft Dynamics or similar systems.

  • Knowledge of accounts payable accounts receivable bank reconciliations billing claims payments or insurance commissions.

  • Familiarity with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) or basic insurance accounting practices.

  • Progress toward a bookkeeping accounting or finance-related certification.

  • Experience supporting audits internal controls financial reporting or process improvement initiatives.
