Job Summary

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Associate Director Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to join AECOMs Philippines-based Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team supporting major international energy infrastructure projects primarily in the UK and global markets.

This senior technical leadership role will provide direction governance and quality oversight across BESS renewable energy and grid connection projects. The role supports delivery across the project lifecyclefrom feasibility and concept design to FEED detailed design construction and commissioning.

Projects include utility-scale BESS renewable integration hybrid systems grid connections and substation interfaces. Delivery is aligned with AECOMs global technical governance framework; statutory sign-off remains with licensed entities in the relevant jurisdiction.

Collaboration with global teams is required including occasional off-hours coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Governance

  • Act as the senior BESS technical lead within the Philippines T&D team.
  • Provide direction oversight and assurance across MV HV and EHV projects.
  • Ensure alignment with international standards client requirements and AECOM procedures.
  • Lead design reviews technical assurance and quality control processes.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and solve complex engineering challenges.

BESS Renewables & Grid Connection Design

  • Lead and review design activities across all project stages (feasibility to detailed design).
  • Oversee BESS balance-of-plant systems including electrical control SCADA and grid interface.
  • Develop grid connection solutions (11kV400kV) including protection and compliance.
  • Review layouts SLDs specifications and control philosophies.
  • Support renewable integration (solar wind hybrid systems).
  • Coordinate grid studies (load flow short circuit protection harmonics).
  • Review supplier/OEM deliverables and construction-stage queries.

Project Delivery & Coordination

  • Collaborate with project managers discipline leads and global teams.
  • Ensure coordinated high-quality multidisciplinary outputs.
  • Contribute to proposals delivery strategies and resource planning.
  • Support technical engagement with clients utilities and delivery partners.

Team Leadership & Capability Development

  • Mentor and develop engineers within the BESS and grid connection discipline.
  • Support recruitment and capability growth.
  • Promote technical excellence collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to standards tools and design guidance development

 

     


    Qualifications :

    Minimum Requirements

    • Degree in Electrical or Power Engineering (or related field).
    • Significant experience in BESS renewables or grid-connected infrastructure.
    • Background in consultancy contractor OEM developer utility or owners engineer roles.
    • Strong knowledge of BESS systems renewable integration and grid requirements.
    • Experience in FEED detailed design or technical assurance roles.
    • Understanding of MV/HV systems including transformers switchgear protection SCADA.
    • Experience in multidisciplinary project environments.
    • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
    • Must be open to working onsite 3 days per week.

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and global workshare delivery.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience on UK or international T&D and BESS projects.
    • Knowledge of UK Grid Code G99 and G100 requirements.
    • Experience with co-located renewable storage systems.
    • Experience with large-scale programmes or developer/utility frameworks.
    • Familiarity with tools such as AutoCAD ETAP DIgSILENT CYMCAP or equivalents.
    • Understanding of emerging technologies (grid-forming hybrid systems LDES).
    • Knowledge of BESS safety considerations (fire layout ventilation).
    • Chartered Engineer or equivalent professional registration (advantageous).

    Additional Information

    This Philippines-based role supports international delivery and does not include statutory sign-off or engineer-of-record responsibility. These remain with licensed AECOM entities in the relevant jurisdictions.

    The role may require occasional early morning or late evening collaboration but is not a night-shift position.
