Co-founded by 5x World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen Take Take Take is building a new home for modern chess. An AI-powered platform for players of every level who want to improve to get personalized coaching play chess and share their learning journey with friends. Weve already built a significant presence in the chess world reaching 5 million people every month with our content. We just launched our new product and are incredibly excited about the future. Take Take Take is backed by SNÖ Coatue Lovable Patrick Collison and others. Were a small team in Oslo and our ambition is to build a new home for the worlds 600 million chess players reaching 200 million users over the coming years.

The Role

As CTO youll step into a leadership role at the heart of the company owning the technical vision and driving the technical direction together with our Head of Engineering building on the foundation already in place. Youll lead the technical team of 4 engineers and be responsible for how this group grows works together and delivers.

This is not a hands-on individual contributor role. Youll set direction make the calls when things arent working and be accountable for the output of the whole group while giving your people the autonomy to operate at a high level. You will stay close enough to the technology to have an informed opinion not to write production code but to understand trade-offs well enough to challenge or support technical decisions and how we scale. Youll bring genuine ambition and a start-up mindset.

This role reports directly to the CEO Mats (ex Oda co-founder) and sits in the leadership team.

• Architect Technical Excellence: Shape the long-term technical vision and infrastructure ensuring our platform is built for scale performance and future innovation.

• Cultivate a High-Performing Culture: Foster an environment of autonomy and excellence where the technical team can grow thrive and do their best work.

• Drive AI Integration: Define and lead our AI strategy ensuring it serves as a central pillar of our product experience.

• Lead Strategic Growth: Act as a key member of the leadership table aligning technical direction with broader company goals for product and user acquisition.

Our ambition is to build a global chess platform reaching 200 million users. As CTO you will play a defining role in turning that ambition into reality.

• Build a scalable and reliable technology platform that can support rapid global growth.

• Enable the organization to move quickly from ideas to high-quality user experiences.

• Use AI personalization and data to create coaching and community experiences users love and return to.

• Build and develop a world-class engineering organization capable of scaling with the company.

• Help drive sustainable user growth engagement retention and monetization together with the CEO and Head of Product.
  

Who You Are

To succeed as our new CTO you are driven by genuine ambition and possess a natural ability for leadership. While you have a solid technical background your greatest strength lies in your ability to shape teams set strategic direction and empower people to perform at their best. You are comfortable making tough decisions when things arent working and you thrive in an environment where you can set the course rather than acting as a hands-on contributor.

As we build a cross-border team strong communication skills and fluency in English are essential. You are Oslo-based and office-first as we believe in the value of proximity to build a strong company culture.

Ideally you have scale-up or start-up experience understanding that hunger and execution often matter more than years of experience. We look for someone willing to go the extra mile ideally with a background in gaming edtech or subscription consumer products. If you are familiar with chess or have a genuine desire to learn the game deeply to better understand our users it will make you a perfect fit.
