Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Perfusionist to provide safe and effective extracorporeal circulation support during cardiac surgical procedures. The successful candidate will operate and manage the heart-lung machine and
related extracorporeal technologies monitor physiological parameters during cardiopulmonary bypass and work closely with the cardiac surgeon and cardiac anaesthetist to optimize patient safety and clinical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and manage cardiopulmonary bypass systems during cardiac surgical procedures.
Prepare prime operate and safely maintain the heart-lung machine and associated perfusion equipment.
Monitor and manage patient physiological parameters during cardiopulmonary bypass.
Manage oxygenation ventilation temperature anticoagulation blood gases electrolytes and fluid balance during bypass.
Support cardiac surgical procedures requiring extracorporeal circulation.
Administer and monitor cardioplegia according to approved surgical protocols.
Collaborate closely with cardiac surgeons and cardiac anaesthetists throughout procedures.
Maintain accurate perfusion records and document all relevant intraoperative events and interventions.
Conduct routine checks preventive maintenance and safety checks of perfusion equipment.
Ensure adequate availability and appropriate management of perfusion consumables.
Respond appropriately to equipment failure and perfusion-related emergencies.
Participate in development and review of perfusion protocols checklists and emergency procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Perfusion Science Cardiovascular Perfusion or an equivalent recognized qualification.
- Current professional registration/licensure where applicable.
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of clinical perfusion experience preferably in a cardiac surgery setting.
- Demonstrated experience operating cardiopulmonary bypass systems independently.
- Experience with adult cardiac surgery; paediatric perfusion experience is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of extracorporeal circulation blood conservation haemodynamic monitoring and cardioplegia techniques.
- Strong understanding of perfusion safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Open to qualified local and expatriate candidates.
