ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN — HVLV DISTRIBUTION, PANELS & EMERGENCY SYSTEMS
Job Summary
JOB SUMMARY
The Electrical Technician will maintain inspect and repair the sites full-scope electrical distribution infrastructure spanning HV and LV switchgear distribution boards transformers earthing systems and emergency lighting working alongside the generator solar and UPS power management systems. The role requires a technician confident working independently on routine PPM and fault-finding while escalating HV/complex work appropriately in a live 24/7 high-footfall environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Carry out scheduled PPM on HV and LV distribution boards panels transformers and switchgear per manufacturer guidelines and statutory intervals.
Inspect test and maintain earthing and bonding systems across the site to ensure continued compliance and safety.
Maintain and test emergency lighting systems including battery back-up units to ensure continuous statutory compliance.
Diagnose and repair LV electrical faults (distribution circuits lighting small power) and support HV fault investigation under supervision of senior/HV-authorised engineers.
Support the interface between electrical distribution and standby power systems (generators ATS/AMF panels solar hybrid UPS) during switching and changeover operations.
Carry out thermal imaging surveys and connection-tightening on distribution boards and panels as part of PPM.
Maintain accurate maintenance logs test certificates and defect reports using the facilitys CMMS/CAFM platform.
Respond promptly to electrical emergency call-outs including out-of-hours where required.
Strictly follow safe isolation lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) and permit-to-work procedures at all times; no bypassing of safety systems or interlocks under any circumstance.
Liaise with the Electrical Lead/Chief Engineer on parts requisition defect escalation and PPM scheduling.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
OND/HND or Trade Certificate in Electrical/Electrical & Electronics Engineering or a related technical discipline.
Minimum 36 years hands-on experience in commercial/industrial electrical maintenance with demonstrable exposure to both HV and LV distribution systems.
Working knowledge of distribution boards transformers earthing systems and emergency lighting installations.
HV authorisation/certification (or clear eligibility to obtain) is an advantage; LV-only candidates with strong potential will also be considered.
Comfortable working with a CMMS/CAFM system for logging maintenance activity (training provided if not previously used).
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills with a methodical safety-first approach to work.
Willingness to work shifts be on standby/on-call and respond to emergency call-outs outside normal hours.
Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a wider engineering team on a live operational site.
Physically fit and able to work in plant-room/industrial environments including at height and in confined spaces where applicable.
