Core IP network Enginer
Job Summary
- Participate in the operation and maintenance of the Core IP infrastructure including wired wireless optical and Datacenter network infrastructure. Support network design and implementation for enterprise and client networks
- Maintain high availability and security of the Core IP network to ensure operation within defined performance thresholds.
- Perform Level 2/Level 3 troubleshooting and support incident resolution within agreed SLAs.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders during network upgrades expansions migrations and change implementation activities.
- Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations topology and implemented changes. Perform any other duties assigned by management as required for the role
- Monitoring of Data Centre components to ensure maximums are adhered to (electrical systems cooling and rack connectivity)
- Bachelors degree in electrical/Electronics/Telecommunications/Network/Computer Engineering (or equivalent)
- IP Certification preferably from Cisco on CCNA level equivalent or above.
- A minimum of 3 or 4 years of experience in Core Network
- Experience working within any of ISPs Carriers or Datacenter environments
- Strong written and oral communications skills in English
- Hands-on experience in the design and operation of LAN/WAN technology including TCP/IP (routers configuration and setup) Security (firewalls Cisco Juniper Barracuda) Network management (switches hubs fiber-optic cabling packet sniffing)
- Strong knowledge in Router Catalyst Load Balancer Firewall Security Internet Connection EIGRP OSPF BGP4 VPN Frame Relay TCP/IP LAN/ WAN VLAN Spanning Tree Ethereal
- Knowledge in Unix/ Linux Shell script
- Experience with last mile access solutions for different environments (DSL microwave radio PTP and PTMP radio fibre etc.)
- Strong written and oral communications skills in English
- Willing to perform work or provide support outside office hours
- Highly motivated and resourceful
- Must be a team player and be able to prioritise different requests and requirements.
- Hand-on design and operation of network like BGP and MPLS
- Previous experience working within an ISP Carrier provider Data Center is a plus
- Experience in liaising with Regional IP Registry (APNIC RIPE AfriNIC etc)
- Project management knowledge is a plus (not compulsory but desirable)
- Knowledge of IDS QoS Video/ Streaming Protocols structured cabling and VoIP

Required Skills:
Experience Education and/or Professional Qualifications Bachelors degree in electrical/Electronics/Telecommunications/Network/Computer Engineering (or equivalent) IP Certification preferably from Cisco on CCNA level equivalent or above.
