Compliance Associate
Job Summary
This is a remote position.
We are looking for a Compliance Associate to join our growing team and support the day-to-day delivery of compliance services to our clients.
This is a hands-on execution role. We are looking for someone who is organised proactive detail-oriented and willing to learn quickly. You will be involved in actual client work filings documentation follow-ups and compliance operations.
THE ROLE
As a Compliance Associate you will support the team in delivering timely and accurate compliance services to clients and ensuring that their statutory and regulatory obligations are properly tracked and managed.
You will work closely with the Founder/Lead Consultant and other members of the team to manage client compliance tasks from instruction to completion.
The ideal person is someone who does not need to be constantly told what to do can manage multiple tasks simultaneously follows through on assignments and takes ownership of getting things done.
- 1. Regulatory & Corporate Compliance
Assist with filings incorporation filings and other corporate compliance requirements.
Assist with preparation and submission of statutory and regulatory filings.
Maintain accurate records of clients corporate information and compliance status.
Track statutory deadlines renewal dates and filing obligations.
Monitor outstanding compliance requirements and ensure timely follow-up.
Conduct basic research on applicable regulatory requirements and communicate findings to the team.
2. Tax Compliance Support
Assist with preparation and submission of monthly and annual tax filings.
Support relevant tax compliance processes.
Collect and organise information and documents required for tax filings. - 3. Client Management & Communication
Communicate professionally with clients regarding compliance requirements and outstanding documents.
Follow up with clients through email and other approved communication channels.
Keep clients updated on the progress of their filings and requests.
Escalate client issues or delays appropriately.
Ensure that client requests are properly documented and followed through to completion.
4. Documentation & Record Keeping
Maintain organized digital client files and compliance records.
Prepare letters forms schedules checklists and other compliance documentation.
Update internal compliance trackers and databases.
Ensure that completed filings and supporting documents are properly archived.
Maintain confidentiality of client information and company records.
5. Compliance Operations
Assist in managing the companys compliance workflow and task management systems.
Monitor assigned tasks and ensure they are completed within agreed timelines.
Identify pending or overlooked tasks and proactively bring them to the teams attention.
Assist in improving internal compliance processes checklists and systems.
Support onboarding of new clients and setup of their compliance records.
6. Research & Learning
Research relevant Nigerian laws regulations regulatory updates and compliance requirements.
Stay informed about changes affecting businesses startups nonprofits and SMEs.
Assist in preparing internal compliance updates and client advisories.
- 7. General Team Support
Work closely with other members of the StartupHQ team to deliver client projects.
Support special projects and other assignments as required.
Take initiative to identify gaps and suggest practical solutions.
Contribute to building a culture of accountability excellence and continuous improvement.
A degree in Law and must have graduated from Law School.
Strong interest in corporate compliance tax legal operations and corporate governance
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Good organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Good computer literacy and confidence working with digital tools.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Strong follow-through and willingness to take responsibility for assigned tasks.
Ability and willingness to learn quickly.

NICE TO HAVE
Previous experience in a law firm consulting firm startup or professional services organisation.
Experience with CAC filings or other regulatory filings.
Basic understanding of Nigerian tax compliance.
Experience with client relationship management.
Experience using tools such as Google Workspace Microsoft Office Notion Trello ClickUp Zoho or similar platforms.
Basic knowledge of corporate governance and business compliance.
Experience working remotely.
IMPORTANT
This is not a passive or observational role.
The person selected will be expected to contribute meaningfully to the teams work from the beginning. You will receive training and guidance but we expect you to take ownership of your responsibilities ask questions learn quickly and deliver.
If you need to be reminded repeatedly to complete tasks this may not be the right role for you.
