Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Cardiac Surgeon Assistant to support the Consultant Cardiac Surgeon in the assessment preparation management and postoperative care of patients undergoing cardiac surgical procedures. The successful candidate will provide clinical and surgical assistance support theatre activities monitor patients and contribute to safe and efficient delivery of cardiac surgical services.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Cardiac Surgeon in preoperative assessment and preparation of patients.
- Review relevant clinical information investigations imaging and laboratory results.
- Assist during cardiac surgical procedures under the supervision of the Consultant Cardiac Surgeon.
- Prepare surgical instruments equipment and required materials for procedures.
- Assist with surgical exposure haemostasis wound closure and other appropriate surgical tasks within scope of practice.
- Monitor patients and support postoperative care in collaboration with the Cardiac ICU and perioperative teams.
- Assist in identifying and escalating postoperative complications.
- Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary cardiac case discussions.
- Maintain accurate clinical and surgical documentation.
- Support patient and family communication as directed by the Consultant Cardiac Surgeon.
- Participate in clinical audits quality improvement activities teaching and service development
Requirements
- Medical degree (MBBS/MD or equivalent) for a physician-level role or other relevant surgical qualification as applicable to the position structure.
- Current professional registration and practising licence.
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant surgical experience.
- Experience in cardiothoracic or cardiac surgery is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an operating theatre and multidisciplinary clinical environment.
- Strong clinical assessment communication and technical skills.
- Good understanding of perioperative and postoperative surgical care.
- Commitment to patient safety professionalism and continuous learning.
- Open to qualified local and expatriate candidates.
