The University of Amsterdam (UvA) is seeking a project manager for the national Large-Scale Research Infrastructure EBRAINS-Neurotech to build a nationwide ecosystem for developing novel brain-compute interfaces serving both fundamental brain research and clinically oriented research. This infrastructure funded by NWO for 10 years comprises nine Dutch Universities and academic institutes and is led by the University of addition to developing hardware and software labs will collaborate in neuroscientific testing of devices for brain reading and writing. Besides the science and technology the infrastructure contains regulatory and ethical components and will organize educational and outreach activities for students and the general public. The project manager will be embedded in the Cognitive and Systems Neuroscience (CSN) group which investigates brain mechanisms of perception consciousness and cognition using experimental and computational cutting-edge techniques and is part of the Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences of the UvA.
This is what you will do
As program manager you will support the coordination and leadership of the EBRAINS-Neurotech infrastructure in managing the project in the following ways:
- Coordinating meetings and other activities of the consortium including scientific management outreach and education ethical screening of projects meeting organization dissemination and reporting project administration data storage and communication with external users of the Neurotech facilities; you will act as a central node in the project;
- Spearheading and supporting the preparation of novel grant applications e.g. in the domain of Europes digital infrastructure for brain research (EBRAINS-Europe) and interacting with other European partners to realize this role;
- Facilitating and coordinating scientific research in the EBRAINS-Neurotech project by closely interacting with researchers in experimental and computational neuroscientists in the CSN group and with hardware and software engineers and neuroscientists in collaborating groups both inside and outside the Netherlands;
- Thinking creatively about realizing the infrastructural and scientific goals of the project and advancing the infrastructure towards future sustainability and efficacy;
- Organizing and executing additional tasks that are conducive to the project in the range of training education local group meetings and other activities.
What we ask of you
Your experience and profile:
- A Master Medical Doctor (MD) degree or PhD in experimental or computational neuroscience although candidates with degrees in related fields including computer science AI engineering mathematics or physics will also be considered;
- Experience and/or affinity with research in neurotechnology is preferred particularly with ensemble recording and 2-photon imaging techniques neuromodulation and other interventional methods computer simulations and/or neural data analysis;
- Experience in organizing scientific and educational activities; coordination of multi-group processes;
- Strong communication skills and a flexible adaptive attitude coupled to rapid response capability;
- Fluency in English both written and spoken.
This is what we offer you
We offer a temporary employment contract for30.4 hours per week for a period of 12 months with a probationary period of two months. After satisfactory evaluation the contract will be extended with 36 months.The preferred starting date is as soon as possible.
The gross monthly salary based on 38 hours per week and dependent on relevant experience ranges between 3.708 5.057 gross per month. This does not include 8% holiday allowance and 83% year-end allowance. The UFO profile Project Leader-2 is applicable. For this position we can not sponsor a visa. TheCollective Labour Agreement of Universities of the Netherlands is applicable.

TheSwammerdam Institute for Life Sciences (SILS) is located at the vibrant Amsterdam Science Park. SILS is one of eight institutes of the University of Amsterdams Faculty of Science (FNWI). With around 240 employees SILS carries out internationally high-quality life science research and provides education within various university programs. Research is also carried out in close cooperation with the medical biotech chemical flavor food & agricultural and high-tech industries and revolves around 4 main themes Cell & Systems biology Neurosciences Microbiology and Green Life Sciences.
