Who we are supporting
The NATO Communication and Information Agency (NCIA) is responsible for providing secure and effective communications and information technology (IT) services to NATOs member countries and its partners. The agency was established in 2012 and is headquartered in Brussels Belgium.
The NCIA provides a wide range of services including:
- Cyber Security: The NCIA provides advanced cybersecurity solutions to protect NATOs communication networks and information systems against cyber threats.
- Command and Control Systems: The NCIA develops and maintains the systems used by NATOs military commanders to plan and execute operations.
- Satellite Communications: The NCIA provides satellite communications services to enable secure and reliable communications between NATO forces.
- Electronic Warfare: The NCIA provides electronic warfare services to support NATOs mission to detect deny and defeat threats to its communication networks.
- Information Management: The NCIA manages NATOs information technology infrastructure including its databases applications and servers.
Overall the NCIA plays a critical role in ensuring the security and effectiveness of NATOs communication and information technology capabilities.
The program
Assistance and Advisory Service (AAS)
The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) is NATOs principal C3 capability deliverer and CIS service provider. It provides maintains and defends the NATO enterprise-wide information technology infrastructure to enable Allies to consult together under Article IV and when required stand together in the face of attack under Article V.
To provide these critical services in the modern evolving dynamic environment the NCI Agency needs to build and maintain high performance-engaged workforce. The NCI Agency workforce strategically consists of three major categorises: NATO International Civilians (NIC)s Military (Mil) and Interim Workforce Consultants (IWC)s. The IWCs are a critical part of the overall NCI Agency workforce and make up approximately 15 percent of the total workforce.

RoleDuties and Responsibilities
- The Principal Technician (ICT Systems)is responsible forthe installation maintenance and repair of information and communication technology systems. He/she provide technical support to end-users and troubleshoot any issues that arise. They stay up to date with the latest technology trends and make recommendations for system improvements. They handle tasks related to configuring hardware and software managing computers and networks devices troubleshooting technical issues ensuring data security and system reliability and provide technical support to end-users. They collaborate with various departments to understand their technology needs andoptimizethe organizations ICT infrastructure to support business operations efficiently.
- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Software configuration
- Assistsin designing verifying documentingamendingand refactoring moderately complex software configurations for deployment.
- Applies agreed standards and tools to achieve a well-engineered result.
- Collaborates in reviews of work with others asappropriate. System software
- Monitors operational systems for resource usage and failure rates to inform andfacilitatesystem software tuning.
- Applies system software parameters to maximise throughput andefficiency.
- Installs and tests new versions of system software.
- Contributes to preparation of software implementation procedureswith fall back contingency plans.
- Network support
- Carries out agreed network maintenance tasks and specifiedoperational configuration of network components.
- Establishand diagnose network problems/faults using therequiredtroubleshootingmethodologyand tools.
- Uses network management software and tools to collect agreedperformance and traffic statistics.
- Systems installation and removal
- Installs or removes hardware and/or software using suppliedinstallation instructions and tools including handover to the client.
- Uses standard procedures and diagnostic tools to testinstallations correct problems and document results.
- Records details of all components that have been installed andremoved.
- Assistsusers and follows agreed procedures for further help orescalation.
- Contributes to the development of installation procedures andstandards.
- Release and deployment
- Uses approved tools and techniques for specific deploymentactivities.
- Administers the recording of activities logging of results anddocuments technical activities for this post:
- The Principal Technician (ICT Systems) will provide 24/7Immediate On-CallResponse to the Service Operations withtechnical AirC2expertiseand solutions at Level 2 support withticket response and resolutions that will meet current operationalneeds and defined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- The Principal Technician (ICT Systems) will work as an on-siteintegrated memberof the assigned service team when not on 24/7on-call duty for immediate ticket response and resolution. He willhelp with the design developmenttestandonsitesupport ofengineering changes to services processes organisation
operatingmodeland other aspects. This effort may berequiredin
addition to his/her daily service operations and maintenance tasks.
EssentialSkillsExperienceand Certifications
- Higher vocational training in a relevant discipline with 3 years post- related experience. Or a secondary educational qualification with 5 years post-related experience.
- Experience:
- At least 3 years practical experience of implementation and maintenance of ICT end systems within a large organization.
- Good experienceconfiguring hardware and software.
- Good understanding of ICT systems and the ability to work independently to solve problems.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting technical issues and providing technical support to end-users.
- Desirable:
- Hands-on experience on troubleshooting technical issues and providing technical support to end-users.
- Network configuration debugging trouble shouting (TCP/IP VPN VLANfirewall DNS).
- Cybersecurity infrastructure understanding.
- Software development in java C C python scripting language.
- Hardware and software configuration of Server hosting platforms custom disk configurations with specific storage controllers RAIDconfigurationredundancy management.
- Overall Strong analytical and problem-solving skills on:
- Remote server administration
- Log analysis
- Network tool usage (Wireshark)
Skill Knowledge & Experience:
- Training:
- ITIL foundation or advanced level training and certification.
