A Day in the Life
As a Principal R&D Engineer at Medtronic Articulating Technologies you will get the opportunity to develop advanced medical devices to enable next generation endoscopic therapeutic interventions and minimally invasive a multi-disciplinary team of engineers you work on design development and testing of surgical instruments and its related manufacturing processes.
We are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership across the design and development of medical devices.

This role combines deep engineering expertise with project management and cross-functional leadership ensuring that products are developed safely efficiently and in compliance with applicable regulatory and quality requirements. The Principal Engineer will serve as a senior technical authority guiding multidisciplinary teams through product development from concept and feasibility through design verification and validation. The role requires strong technical judgment structured project management skills and the ability to influence stakeholders across Engineering Quality Regulatory Manufacturing Clinical and Commercial functions.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Act as a senior technical authority and subject-matter expert for medical device development leading complex product development projects from initiation through commercialization
  • Develop and review system architectures product requirements design concepts specifications and technical documentation ensuring engineering decisions are based on sound technical principles risk management usability reliability and patient safety
  • Provide technical mentorship and coaching to engineers and project team members; provide day-to-day work direction for the team focused on maintaining steady workflow effective resource allocation and productivity; and lead engineering activities in accordance with applicable medical device regulations standards and company quality systems
  • Lead cross-functional projects and develop project plans schedules budgets resource requirements milestones and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders; monitor and communicate project progress; identify risks and dependencies; and implement corrective actions
  • Represent Articulating Technologies as a primary contact communicating with internal and external customers and vendors at various levels and drive project meetings design reviews technical reviews and management updates
  • Escalate critical issues and make recommendations regarding project priorities and resource allocation while leading technical problem-solving and decision-making in complex or ambiguous situations
  • Collaborate closely with Quality Regulatory Affairs Clinical Manufacturing Supply Chain Product Management and Commercial teams to translate business and customer needs into robust technical solutions and build alignment among stakeholders with competing priorities
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Operations to transition products into production supporting process development design transfer production readiness and supplier qualification activities
  • Represent Engineering in cross-functional and executive-level meetings providing technical leadership and facilitating effective communication stakeholder alignment and execution across the organization.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Masters degree in in Mechanical Engineering/Biomedical Engineering/Industrial Engineering or similar
  • > 7 years proven experience managing complex projects or programs in research and product development in the in the medical device industry preferably in the field of precision mechanics
  • Experience with product and process development aligned with ISO 13485 requirements
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Mastering the Dutch & English language.
