Summary

As part of the Celestica Global Automation team you are a Mechanical Engineer with experience in all levels of automation equipment manufacturing and technologies. You can provide design solution concepts that can resolve complex manufacturing problems with the use of Automation. You can develop detailed estimation cost of wide variety of solutions involving different types of technologies (robotics PLC vision system automated testers safety mobile robots cleanroom requirements etc) in different type of markets (industrial smart energy health-tech communications etc) aligned with different types of standards/regulations. You have experience designing developing and deploying automation technologies for different industries. With this knowledge you are comfortable working in a team environment to create the requirements and specifications in order to build world-class equipment.

In this role you will report to the Senior Manager of Automation Engineering. This position is based in Monterrey Mexico.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as but not limited to the following:

  • Conceptualize/Design Automated/semi-automated assembly processes for different type of products with the use of 2D and 3D design tools.
  • Estimate investment cost in different scenarios based on location/manufacturing volume/customer requirements/etc including direct/indirect labor requirements.
  • Create URS (User Requirement and Specifications) for automated assembly processes.
  • Apply lean concepts as part of the methodology of the automation design solutions.
  • Analyze designs and systems for compliance to applicable standards (i.e. customer specific standards)
  • Interface with customers suppliers and internal teams to provide site specific automation needs.
  • Evaluate suppliers and understand capability and maturity for different processes.
  • Manage suppliers on the deliverables through the design development and deployment of automated solutions.
  • Responsible for communicating progress on project tasks
  • Formalize and update drawing documentation
  • Support automation projects in all phases of the Project Life Cycle.
  • Collaborate with various automation peers to deliver innovative automation solutions to customers.
  • Be knowledgeable of automation market trends for different technologies.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
  • Experience designing equipment up to turned key robotic / automated solutions with the use of 2D and 3D CAD software tools.
  • Able to evaluate automation requirements to create an automated solution from existing manual process assembly as well as through customer requirements for new solution.
  • Ability to estimate cost of different solutions.
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills at different levels of the company
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety regulations and procedures
  • Ability to work in a team environment and actively participate in group meetings.
  • Strong communicator.
  • Experience with integrating 3rd party automation solutions as well as developing own solutions.
  • Knowledge of automation systems and tools like robotic vision systems material handling ASRS Conveyors PLC SCADA screws/fasteners HMI Pick-Place-Pack Inspection/Test CNC 3D printing.
  • Experience in Automated Turn Key Solutions; Previously involved in Design Manufacturing Installation Start-Up & Commissioning Stages of the Project
  • Knowledge of drafting principles using AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks (or similar)
  • Able to work in a fast-changing dynamic environments
  • Knowledge of Layout Tooling/Fixturing Demand Flow Cell Concept and Lean Manufacturing.
  • Project Management Experience; basic understanding of PMBOK
  • Knowledge of Financial Terms and Calculations (ROI Payback etc.)
Physical Demands
  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g. data entry using a computer mouse using a calculator etc.) are frequently required.
  • Expectation of travel to vendor/supplier locations and other Celestica sites 10% of time. However may be exceeded in critical times throughout project lifecycle.
Typical Experience
  • Minimum 7 years in automation design at a machine integrator robotic supplier or equivalent designing and conceptualizing machines from small table top to large complex integrated stations in assembly processes
  • Basic knowledge of printed circuit board assembly/electronics manufacturing is a plus.
  • Knowledge of project management tools and techniques such as project and resource planning in MS Project and/or smartsheet considered an asset.
Typical Education
  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering / Robotics / Mechatronics or similar.
