Job Summary

Description

The Safety Engineer is responsible for leading and coordinating industrial safety and occupational health activities within the plant. The goal is to ensure compliance with applicable regulations (NOMs ISO 45001 ISO 14001) as well as to promote a culture of risk prevention continuous improvement and operational excellence throughout the organization. This role will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to identify assess and control workplace risks implement safety programs and ensure optimal conditions in the work environment.



Responsibilities
  • Safety Leadership & Planning Develop implement and follow up on the Annual Occupational Health and Safety Plan aligned with the companys global objectives and applicable legal requirements.
  • Risk Management & Regulatory Compliance Identify assess and control workplace risks (JSA task-based risk analysis). Ensure compliance with Mexican regulations (NOMs STPS SEMARNAT Civil Protection) and international standards ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
  • Incident Investigation Lead investigations of accidents incidents and near-misses identifying root causes and establishing corrective and preventive action plans (CAPA) focused on preventing recurrence.
  • Training & Safety Culture Design and deliver occupational health and safety training programs. Promote awareness campaigns and active employee participation to strengthen the safety culture.
  • Industrial Hygiene Management Coordinate monitoring of physical chemical biological and ergonomic agents. Evaluate results and propose control measures according to the hierarchy of controls (elimination substitution engineering administrative PPE).
  • Audits & Continuous Improvement Plan and execute internal health and safety audits. Participate in external audits and follow up on findings. Implement improvements based on results.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination Collaborate with Manufacturing Maintenance Engineering Human Resources and Security teams to integrate safety into all operational processes.
  • Metrics & Reporting Monitor and report key safety indicators (OSHA rates frequency severity unsafe acts and conditions). Generate management reports with trend analysis and improvement proposals.
  • PPE & Occupational Health Management Manage the Personal Protective Equipment program. Coordinate periodic medical exams epidemiological surveillance and occupational health programs.


Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelors degree in Engineering (Industrial Mechanical Chemical Environmental Safety or related field).
  • Professional experience: Minimum of 35 years of proven experience as a Safety Engineer or in related roles preferably in the automotive sector or metal-mechanic manufacturing.
  • Technical knowledge:
    • Proficiency in Mexican occupational health and safety regulations (STPS NOMs health NOMs Civil Protection).
    • In-depth knowledge of ISO 45001 (OHSMS) and ISO 14001 (EMS) standards.
    • Experience in hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies (JSA LOTO working at heights confined spaces chemical handling).
    • Proficiency in incident investigation techniques (8D 5 Whys).
    • Knowledge of industrial hygiene (physical chemical ergonomic agents).
  • Management skills: Ability to lead teams facilitate training and coordinate emergency response brigades.
  • Languages: Intermediateadvanced English (conversational and technical) essential for communication with global teams and international documentation.
  • Soft skills: Effective communication leadership teamwork data analysis decision-making results orientation and proactivity.

Availability: Full-time on-site with availability to respond to emergencies outside regular hours when necessary.
