Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Advanced Manufacturing - Industrial Engineering the Junior Industrial Engineer supports the design analysis and improvement of manufacturing lines. The role is primarily focused on line optimization material presentation workstation and production line design and plant layout development using AutoCAD or similar CAD tools. The position conducts time studies supports line balancing develops practical layout and rack concepts and works with operations manufacturing engineering supply chain and safety teams to implement safe efficient and scalable solutions. This is a hands-on development role that applies standard industrial engineering and Lean methods under the guidance of senior engineers and site leaders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support line optimization projects by collecting production data observing work content and identifying motion waiting transportation and balancing losses.
- Conduct cycle time studies work sampling capacity analysis and basic takt-time calculations using standard templates and approved methods.
- Develop and maintain line balance sheets operator loading charts standard work combination sheets spaghetti diagrams and process flow maps.
- Create and revise AutoCAD drawings for plant layouts production lines workstations material supermarkets aisle routes storage areas rack systems and support equipment.
- Validate layouts in the production area by confirming dimensions utilities aisle requirements equipment clearances material access ergonomics and safety constraints.
- Design practical material presentation concepts including gravity-flow racks shelving carts bins returnable containers FIFO lanes kitting stations and point-of-use storage.
- Support line-side material delivery and replenishment design using PFEP data consumption rates container quantities Kanban signals delivery frequency and space requirements.
- Partner with operators and supervisors to improve workstation design tool location reach zones part orientation visual controls and operator movement.
- Support new line installations line moves workstation changes and production ramp-ups through layout updates onsite coordination and performance validation.
- Assist with Value Stream Mapping bottleneck analysis one-piece-flow implementation WIP reduction and pull-system improvements.
- Prepare alternatives and simple business cases for line changes rack systems material handling equipment and low-cost productivity improvements.
- Update engineering documentation including layouts standard work time-study records material-flow diagrams equipment lists improvement trackers and before/after results.
- Monitor line performance and summarize results using productivity throughput cycle time labor utilization space utilization WIP and travel-distance indicators.
- Participate in continuous improvement events and structured problem solving related to flow material shortages congestion poor presentation excessive handling or operator motion.
- Ensure proposed layouts and material presentation solutions comply with applicable safety ergonomic environmental and facility standards.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering Operations Supply Chain Quality EHS Maintenance and external suppliers to implement approved improvements.
- Support standardization and replication of proven line-design and material-presentation solutions across operating sites.
- Travel as required up to 30% to support onsite studies layout validation and implementation activities.
Qualifications / Requirements / Desired Characteristics
- Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering Manufacturing Engineering Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Entry-level to 3 years of manufacturing industrial engineering internship co-op or continuous improvement experience.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D for plant layouts line layouts equipment placement dimensioning layers blocks and drawing updates; experience with an additional 3D layout tool is a plus.
- Basic understanding of line balancing takt time cycle time capacity standard work labor productivity and Lean manufacturing principles.
- Basic knowledge of material flow and line-side presentation concepts such as PFEP Kanban FIFO supermarkets kitting tugger routes racks carts and point-of-use storage.
- Ability to take accurate field measurements and translate production requirements into clear practical layout drawings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel PowerPoint and Word; ability to organize data create basic analyses and communicate findings visually.
- Ability to work effectively on the shop floor engage operators document current conditions and support implementation activities.
- Strong analytical organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and drawing accuracy.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present recommendations to technical and operational teams.
- Willingness to learn Dover industrial engineering standards tools playbooks and project governance methods.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments follow defined timelines and escalate risks or constraints promptly.
- English proficiency required; Spanish proficiency is a plus for cross-site collaboration.
