Group Head of Technology

Machete Tech is a software development company specialising in the design development and support of high-performance technology solutions for the online gaming industry. Our teams build scalable platforms innovative products and robust infrastructure that support multiple brands across international markets.

As we continue to grow were looking for an experienced Group Head of Technology to lead our Technology department and drive the successful delivery of our technology initiatives.

Reporting directly to the CEO you will lead a team of approximately 20 technology professionals across Software Engineering QA DevOps and Infrastructure. Working closely with the Group Head of Product you will ensure the Technology function delivers secure scalable and high-quality solutions that support the business and product roadmap.

This role is ideal for an experienced technology leader who is passionate about developing people building high-performing engineering teams and creating a culture of accountability collaboration and continuous improvement.

Tasks

Technology Leadership

• Lead and manage the Technology department ensuring the successful delivery of technology initiatives that support the Groups business objectives.
• Develop and maintain the technical roadmap required to support the product roadmap and the future scalability of the Groups platforms.
• Own technical decision-making across software engineering architecture infrastructure cloud technologies and security.
• Ensure technology solutions are scalable secure resilient and maintainable.
• Identify opportunities to improve systems engineering practices and operational efficiency.
• Promote innovation whilst ensuring operational stability and high-quality delivery.
• Provide technical expertise and recommendations to the CEO and senior stakeholders to support informed technology decisions.

People Leadership & Team Development

People leadership is at the heart of this role. You will lead a Technology team of approximately 20 employees creating an environment where individuals are supported motivated and empowered to perform at their best.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading inspiring and developing high-performing teams across Software Engineering QA DevOps and Infrastructure.
• Building a positive culture based on accountability collaboration ownership and continuous improvement.
• Coaching mentoring and supporting Engineering Managers Technical Leads and individual contributors.
• Conducting regular one-to-one meetings performance reviews and career development discussions.
• Identifying and developing future leaders through coaching and succession planning.
• Managing performance proactively and supporting employees to achieve their full potential.
• Supporting employee engagement wellbeing and professional development.
• Leading recruitment activities and workforce planning to ensure the department remains appropriately resourced.
• Promoting knowledge sharing and continuous learning throughout the Technology function.
• Acting as an approachable visible and trusted leader across the business.

Engineering Leadership & Technical Excellence

• Establish and maintain engineering standards development frameworks and technical best practices.
• Ensure robust software architecture coding standards testing practices and release management processes are consistently applied.
• Promote engineering excellence through continuous improvement and technical innovation.
• Drive the adoption of modern software development practices automation and AI-assisted development where appropriate.
• Reduce technical debt whilst supporting sustainable long-term platform development.
• Support Engineering Managers and Technical Leads in delivering high-quality software and high-performing teams.
• Foster a culture of technical curiosity learning and continuous improvement.

Product Delivery & Technology Execution

• Working closely with the Group Head of Product you will ensure the successful delivery of the agreed product roadmap through effective technical planning execution and collaboration.
• Your responsibilities include:
• Partnering with the Group Head of Product to translate product requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions.
• Providing technical expertise during planning estimation and solution design.
• Leading engineering delivery across multiple concurrent projects and initiatives.
• Ensuring technology projects are delivered to agreed priorities quality standards and timelines.
• Promoting close collaboration between Product Engineering QA and Infrastructure teams.
• Balancing delivery speed with technical quality platform stability and long-term maintainability.
• Removing delivery blockers and supporting teams to achieve successful outcomes.

Platforms Infrastructure & Security

• Oversee cloud infrastructure DevOps practices and platform reliability.
• Ensure technology platforms maintain high levels of availability resilience and operational performance.
• Lead incident management root cause analysis and continuous service improvement.
• Ensure disaster recovery and business continuity arrangements are maintained and regularly reviewed.
• Champion cybersecurity best practices across the Technology department.
• Ensure systems remain secure and compliant with company standards and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Establish effective governance around infrastructure deployment and change management.

Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement

• Champion a quality-first approach throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Ensure effective QA strategies automation and testing processes are embedded across all development teams.
• Promote continuous improvement through retrospectives process optimisation and engineering best practices.
• Establish and monitor meaningful Technology KPIs to improve operational performance.
• Encourage continuous improvement across tooling processes and ways of working.

Technology Governance

• Maintain effective governance across technology engineering and architecture practices.
• Ensure appropriate technical documentation standards and operational procedures are maintained.
• Identify and manage technology risks proactively.
• Ensure compliance with company policies security standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Support business continuity through effective planning and risk management.

Requirements

• Significant experience leading a Technology Engineering or Software Development function within the iGaming online gaming or software product industries.
• Proven experience managing and developing multidisciplinary technology teams of approximately 1530 employees.
• An exceptional people leader with a genuine passion for coaching mentoring and developing others.
• Demonstrable experience building high-performing engineering cultures focused on accountability collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Strong technical background across software engineering cloud infrastructure DevOps and software architecture.
• Experience delivering complex technology projects within Agile software development environments.
• Strong understanding of software development methodologies and engineering best practices.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
• Strong organisational planning and decision-making skills.
• A collaborative leadership style with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
• Experience leading technology teams through periods of growth and organisational change.
• Knowledge of cloud-native technologies cybersecurity and platform reliability.
• Experience implementing AI-assisted development or engineering automation.
• Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science Software Engineering Information Technology or a related discipline.
