Senior Mechanical Engineer (Ports and Marine)

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our operations team in this senior-level position you will oversee the design installation maintenance and optimization of mechanical systems and equipment critical to port operations. You will lead a team of engineers and technicians while ensuring all systems operate at peak efficiency and comply with international safety standards. This role offers the opportunity to drive operational excellence and implement innovative solutions in a dynamic maritime environment.
- Design develop and oversee the installation of mechanical systems and equipment for port infrastructure including cargo handling machinery conveyor systems and hydraulic/pneumatic equipment
- Conduct detailed technical analyses and troubleshooting of mechanical failures identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime
- Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers and technicians providing technical guidance and ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards
- Manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs to optimize equipment performance and extend asset lifespan
- Prepare comprehensive technical documentation including design specifications maintenance manuals and standard operating procedures
- Ensure all mechanical systems and operations comply with international regulations industry standards (IMCA ISO) and local Kuwait regulations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations procurement and safety departments to coordinate equipment upgrades and maintenance schedules
- Evaluate vendor proposals and manage relationships with equipment suppliers and contractors
- Conduct risk assessments and HAZOP analyses to identify potential hazards and implement mitigation strategies
- Monitor equipment performance metrics and prepare detailed reports for senior management
- Stay current with industry advancements and recommend adoption of new technologies and best practices
Qualifications :
- Minimum 15 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering with at least 8 years in port maritime or heavy industrial operations
- Proven expertise in designing and maintaining mechanical systems including cargo handling equipment conveyor systems and hydraulic/pneumatic machinery
- Advanced proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD CATIA) and engineering analysis tools (ANSYS or equivalent)
- Strong knowledge of international safety standards and regulations (IMCA ISO 9001 ISO 14001)
- Demonstrated experience in equipment maintenance management predictive maintenance and reliability engineering
- Proven leadership experience managing technical teams and mentoring junior engineers
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
- Proficiency in maintenance management software and data analysis tools
- Knowledge of automation systems and control technologies in port operations
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Arabic language skills are preferred
- Familiarity with budget management and cost optimization in equipment operations
- Professional certification in mechanical engineering or related field is preferred
