Job Summary
Spray Planning
- Coordinate with the farm manager to determine spray requirements.
- Develop and implement spray schedules based on crop growth stages pest and disease pressure and weather conditions as provided by the farm manager.
Chemical Management
- Ensure the correct selection mixing and application rates of agrochemicals.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of chemicals and monitor stock levels.
- Store chemicals safely according to regulations and manufacturer guidelines.
Equipment Supervision
- Oversee calibration maintenance and repair of sprayers and related equipment.
- Ensure spray equipment is functioning efficiently to achieve accurate coverage.
Team Management
- Supervise spray operators and support staff.
- Assign daily tasks and monitor performance.
- Train workers on safe chemical handling equipment operation and emergency procedures.
Health Safety and Environmental Compliance
- Enforce the use of appropriate PPE.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health environmental and food safety regulations.
- Prevent spray drift chemical contamination and improper disposal of containers and leftover chemicals.
Quality Control
- Verify that sprays are applied uniformly and at the recommended rates.
- Inspect treated blocks for coverage and effectiveness.
- Report any spray failures or phytotoxicity issues.
Record Keeping
- Maintain detailed spray records including date field/block product batch numbers application rates weather conditions operator names REI and PHI.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all chemical applications comply with national pesticide regulations and certification requirements (e.g. GlobalG.A.P.).
- Prepare documentation for farm audits and inspections.
Pest and Disease Monitoring
- Work with scouts to monitor pest and disease levels.
- Recommend timely interventions based on scouting reports and thresholds.
Harvest Coordination
- Ensure spraying does not interfere with harvesting schedules.
- Observe all pre-harvest intervals to prevent residue violations.
Resource Management
- Manage water use during spray operations.
- Minimise chemical waste and optimise operational efficiency.
Required Skills:
d. Core Technical Expertise: Mastery of black tea biochemistry CTC machinery Orthodox rolling and automated fermentation management. Direct working knowledge of green tea processing mechanisms (de-enzyming/steaming roasting and specialty drying for Tencha). Proficiency in physical tea grading mesh sizing and recipe-based custom grade blending for export markets.
