Job Summary
Summary
This role owns quality and cold chain from field harvest through to arrival in market building the systems measuring performance and closing the loop on rejects and claims.
Purpose: Own QA and cold chain performance across all four berry crops from field to market arrival.
Core scope:
- QA protocols and grade standards across blueberry blackberry raspberry strawberry
- Shelf-life programme (POH-SF-12) sampling trials corrective action
- Cold chain mapping with target and tolerance at every step
- Temperature and humidity monitoring (loggers real-time sensors) across pre-cool storage transport
- Pack-out audits reject and claim investigation root cause
- Weekly QA and cold chain dashboard to GM and CEO
- GlobalG.A.P. BRC GRASP HACCP compliance and audit lead
- Build and lead the QA team (field packhouse cold store)
KPIs:
- % shipments within temperature spec
- Reject rate at packing and arrival
- Claim value as % of FOB
- Shelf-life on arrival vs target
- Time from harvest to pre-cool
- Audit scores
Requirements
Degree in food science horticulture agriculture or related
- 5 years QA / cold chain in fresh produce export (berries or soft fruit preferred)
- GlobalG.A.P. BRC HACCP working knowledge
- Experience with data loggers and monitoring platforms
- Strong English; Swahili a plus
- Based in Bomet
