Position of Employment:

Assistant Engineering Manager.

Direct Reports:

Electrical and Mechanical supervisors


Position Purpose/ Objective:


This role will have the overall responsibility for


General management and administration of Engineering Activities as follows;


1. Manage plan and control resource utilization in the department for efficient achievement of set performance targets at optimum cost. Review and address performance issues with department staff.

  1. Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports approving expenditures enforcing rules attending meetings and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.


  1. Ensure all engineering activities conform to the various certification standards adopted by the company (e.g. ISO 22000 and Rain Forest Alliance).



Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:


Main Responsibility

The elimination or reduction of Machinery down time created by machinery breakdowns. This is either by reducing the number of machine breakdowns or by reducing the time taken to resolve breakdowns.

Other Responsibilities

1) Holding daily planning meetings with the Engineering team as may be required.

2) Liaising with the production team to ensure continuous plant operation by providing fast and efficient continuous and factory floor support.

3) Develop and implement policies standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the factories and estates.

4) Co-ordinate material acquisition logistics with the relevant departments i.e. procurement stores and fleet.

5) Ensure accurate utility and maintenance records are well kept and always available.

6) Liaise with other management staff production staff and other department staff to discuss quality process project and other company matters.

7) Ensuring that company utilities under the Engineering Department such as the Water Treatment Plant and Water lines are well maintained and managed.

8) Liaising with various service providers e.g. KPLC to ensure smooth running of factory operations.

9) Provide technical assistance to engineering teams to ensure tasks are executed efficiently and reliably.

10) Preparation of annual budgets and their implementation.

11) Facilitate and participate in the various statutory audits and inspections e.g. Boiler inspection ISO 22000 Rainforest Alliance and Energy audits.

12) Coordinate and direct new projects making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.

13) Participate in the recruitment training and resourcing of new employees in the department; assign direct and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.

14) Administer disciplinary action to department staff members in accordance to company policy.

15) Present and explain proposals reports and findings to senior management

16) Explore and develop lasting solutions for perennial machine and process problems / weaknesses.

17) Perform plant / equipment risk assessment and advice on strategic actions to be taken in view to guarantee plant safety by enforcing safety standards.

18) Perform various assigned roles as a contributing member of the various committees appointed to including but not limited to Food safety committee Health and safety committee Energy committee and Gender committee.

19) Ensure that all relevant company policies are adhered to and that there is full compliance in the department.

20) Liaise with the engineering manager in the preparation of contracts and bids for various engineering works directing negotiations and ensuring execution is as per required standards.

21) Plan and direct the installation testing operation maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment.

22) Analyze technology resource needs and industry demands so as to plan and assess the feasibility of projects and new equipment with a view of plant improvement.

23) Conceptualization Design and Development of new innovative projects and improvements to process and machinery to drive product quality machine reliability and overall efficiency.

24) Attend various management meetings as required.

25) Perform any other duties as may be assigned to you from time to time.

v Ensuring an Energy Management System (EnMS) is established implemented maintained and continuously improved

v Identifying person(s) authorized by an appropriate level of management to work with me in support of energy management activities

v Reporting to top management on energy performance and performance of the EnMS

v Ensuring that the planning of energy management activities is designed to support the organizations energy policy

v Defining and communicating responsibilities and authorities in order to facilitate effective energy management

v Determining criteria and methods needed to ensure that both the operation and control of the EnMS are effective

v Promoting awareness of the energy policy and objectives at all levels of the organization.



Requirements

Qualification & Experience Required:

  1. A Degree in Electrical / Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  2. At least 10 years post training experience.
  3. Knowledge of operations and maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems.
  4. Ability to analyze problems on electrical and mechanical systems and devices.
  5. Deep understanding and experience in automation controls and instrumentation
  6. Practical skills to maintain and adapt equipment ensuring that it is safe reliable and efficient.
  7. A sound grasp of theoretical principles of electrical mechanical and civil engineering
  8. Ability to read and interpret electrical mechanical and civil drawings.
  9. Good and proven administrative and management experience and skills.
  10. A good command of data management and analysis tools and proficiency in the Microsoft office suite with the ability to effectively use the internet to obtain data and reference material.
  11. Experience in project management.
