Job Title: Tooling and Machine Engineer

Department : Operations

Reports To : Manager

Summary: This position is responsible for designing developing optimizing and maintaining tooling and machinery to ensure efficiency reliability and quality in manufacturing operations. Additionally they will focus on improving productivity and effecting cost reductions in the manufacturing while maintaining high standards of safety and quality. This position is also responsible for improving and developing new manufacturing processes negotiating and dealing with x key supplier accounts as well as overseeing new vendor selection in accordance with the established purchasing procedures and support other facilities with tooling and machine matters.

The Engineer is responsible for the design optimization and maintenance of tools and dies used in metal stamping processes. The role involves collaborating with crossfunctional teams vendors/ suppliers utilizing engineering principles and leveraging industry expertise to ensure the successful production of highquality metal components.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following.


Evaluate tooling dies fixtures machinery and cutting tools to meet quality and safety standards.
Create and optimize designs for machinery tooling and equipment to ensure efficiency
Collaborate with vendors engineers technicians and production teams in design of new tool to ensure that they meet production requirements
Source for new tooling and machine vendors in accordance with guideline.
Conduct feasibility studies and analyses to determine the best tooling solutions.
Assist with training personnel on safe use of tooling and machine processes as required in compliance with governmental and standards of safety.
Maintain a healthy and safe work environment by reporting all hazards keeping the work area clean materials positioned correctly and following safe operating procedure.
Develop implement and manage preventive maintenance schedules for all tools and equipment. Recommend and implement improvements to enhance reliability and efficiency
Conduct research and analysis to identify areas of process improvement and collaborate others to implement changes that improve efficiency and reduce cost
Select appropriate materials for tool and machinery construction based on performance requirements.
Evaluate and source components ensuring reliability and compatibility in the manufacturing environment.
Participate in new product development and product transfer projects.
Oversee the calibration of precision tools to ensure accuracy and compliance with quality standards.
Collaborate with quality control teams to implement and maintain quality assurance processes related to tooling and first article submission.
Investigate and diagnose tooling issues identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
Coordinate and support repairs on tools and equipment minimizing downtime in the production process.
Maintain accurate records of tooling maintenance repairs and calibration activities.
Generate regular reports on tooling performance issues and resolutions.
Prepares requisition for tool purchases maintenance and repairs.
Produce and participate in the implementation of ideas for the Method Improvements program.
Participate and facilitate charter teams.
Assist the Manager in planning and implementing effective and efficient methods of fabricating. This applies to the development of new products and special quotes.
Provide input to budget preparation and meet the specified deadline.
Stay informed about industry trends and new technologies related to tooling.
Participate in crossfunctional teams for continuous improvement initiatives.
Travel for trade shows conferences other facilities or vendors shops
Write trip and special reports for new equipment and machinery
Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:


Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent from twoyear College or technical school;
35 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proven experience in machine and tooling design and maintenance.
Ability to read precision measurement instruments gauges and engineering drawings.
Ability to use design software and prepare sheet metal layouts up to and including prototype work.
Language Skills: Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or government regulations in addition to documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.



Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization read and develop engineering blueprints into shop floor work sketches. Good practical experience of factory rules bill or material structure labour and safety regulations and process layouts
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.
Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of Occupational Health and Safety Act and legal safety polices in written or diagram form and solve problems under a variety of circumstances.
Other Skills and Abilities: Must have knowledge of mechanics electricity and fixturing.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
Good working knowledge and ability to use Microsoft office Word and spreadsheet software; knowledge of computer operation; including local network server administration.
Ability to give presentations to large groups of people and interact with all levels of organization. Demonstrated ability to negotiate simple and complex contracts.
