Every day thousands of youth aged 1529 are dying on the worlds roads. This has to stop. The Sr. Communications Manager is an exciting role within the leading global organization on youth and road safety issues. We need you to be proactive organized selfmanaging and selfstarter ready to lead our global communications with the highest and most creative standards.


    Our impact

    YOURS has three pillars of activities: advocating inspiring connecting & uniting and capacity development.

    1) The first pillar advocating is to provide one voice for youth on road safety issues at a global level to increase awareness of youth road safety in the world as a global issue and to increase participation of youth in road safety.

    2) The second pillar inspiring connecting & uniting is to inspire and connect young people and youthled NGOs active in the road safety field around the world so they can work together easily share information and experiences and become united at a global level.

    3) The third pillar is capacity development. Not just to turn young people into road safety advocates but also to equip them with project management communication and advocacy skills to organize effective road safety campaigns in their countries and raise awareness for the vulnerable position of young people in traffic.

    YOURS plays a vital role in preventing road traffic injuries among young people. It is a unique organization that unites and supports youth leaders worldwide to demand and deliver road safety. YOURS is recognized as a leader in assisting government investment in youth leadership in the road safety field. We add value to the broader development agenda by contributing to a healthier planet liveable cities gender equality safe school zones and equal access to safe and sustainable mobility.

    Purpose of the Position

    The Sr. Communications Manager oversees the creation development and timely implementation of the organizational and all project communications following the YOURS Communications Strategy. In collaboration with the team the Sr. Communications Manager is ultimately responsible for ensuring communications align with the YOURS strategic plan and advocacy messages. The person is also responsible for effectively communicating our impact helping drive our project goals and protecting the YOURS brand and image.


    Key Responsibilities

      1. Communications strategic thinking
      The Sr. Communications Manager is the owner of the YOURS Communications strategy and it is in charge of ensuring it gets properly enacted in various communications opportunities through projects and the global/local agenda.

      She/she/it is not only coordinating and managing the Communications strategy but most importantly proposing approaches to support the organizational objectives.

      Through strategic thinking this person is someone who can also question and evaluate how YOURS is doing and help the team ensure solid impactful and wellthought communication tactics for every action.

      2. Communication planning and standardization

      The Sr. Communications Manager is responsible for reviewing and managing all communication requests from the team and developing a plan for priority and urgency.

      You will create and follow standardized processes guidelines and tools to collect communication requests and give visibility to the team on when and how certain things can and will be delivered according to the priority assigned to that request.

      You understand the question behind the question and provide advice with a tailored communications plan if needed following the YOURS Strategic Communications plan.

      3. Communication productions

      As Sr. Communications Manager you will oversee assist and ensure the quality of the production of the agreed communication materials.

      You will be the final focal point for signoff materials ensuring that relevant communications products such as articles press releases blogs oped newsletters stories videos annual and donor reports factsheets infographics etc. are timely developed meet the highest standards we promote at YOURS and are disseminated to target groups through relevant media and network channels.

      4. Brand management

      The Sr. Communications Manager will oversee the different brands (YOURS YOURS Academy Coalition) and their consistency creativity and quality. You will support the team with clear brand guidelines and ensure they can access approved design templates (for letters presentations concept notes etc.).

      You will also periodically review the brands and their collaterals/websites advise the YOURS Executive Director on time on needed updates and innovative new approaches and lead the implementation of the suggested changes.

      5. Communication stakeholder development

      The Sr. Communications Manager will be asked to build relationships with media influencers digital campaigners and any other external channels that would bring visibility to YOURS work. She/he/will be in charge of coordinating interviews during events at local or global levels and support workshops seminars campaigns events proposals and project review meetings where appropriate.

      6. Communication M&E and archive

      The Sr. Communications Manager will monitor and evaluate the impact of our communication efforts. The person will ensure all YOURS activities have a communications/dissemination strategy and proper mechanisms to track their performance. That way the person can analyze it and include new approaches and lessons learned in future strategies.

      He/she/it will also ensure all communication materials are properly stored and archived for future reference.

      7. Events quality assurance

      The Sr. Communications Manager is ultimately responsible for ensuring that all events at YOURS follow the same spirit (innovative interactive and creative). We expect highquality communication materials and wellthoughtout communication tactics to engage different audiences including our partners.

      Events not only include onsite gatherings but also online sessions where we involve young leaders and other stakeholders. The Sr. Communications Manager ensures that the YOURS events process is respected at all events where the YOURS brand is placed whether those are organized by other partners.

      8. Management and coordination of the Communications department

      The Sr. Communications Manager will manage the Jr. Communications Manager and report directly to the Executive Director.

      He/She/It will be responsible for creating socializing and implementing coordination tools mechanisms and practices that will allow the Communications team (and other areas) to coordinate efforts and align the work dynamics in a remote environment.

      Requirements and competencies to work with us

      Qualifications:

      Bachelors Degree in communications journalism public relations or a related field.
      At least five years of similar work experience is required.
      Experience in the development and implementation of organizational communications strategies is required;
      Experience in using communications to support advocacy;
      Experience in developing socializing and implementing communication processes tools and guidelines ensuring organizational standardization
      Candidates should be able to work independently and within a team environment.
      Demonstrated and extensive communication experience in managing a communication department.
      Excellent written and oral English communication skills
      Knowledge of other languages/dialects is an asset.
      Road safety sustainable mobility and youth issues knowledge are desirable.

      Technical Skills & Personal Attributes

      Strong interpersonal skills;
      Proficient in ICT skills;
      Strategic thinking: you think before you act and you are a doer; you prioritize actions and make things happen and have the energy and personality to motivate others despite the hierarchy;
      Experience with media engagement and public engagement strategies and planning;
      Operational knowledge to produce and supervise the production of communication collaterals: video graphics social media plans etc;
      Strong design skills and ability to use professional design and editing software such as but not limited to Adobe Creative Suite;
      Role model of ethical standards and integrity;
      Familiarity and ease with a variety of cultures and comfortable with diverse groups;
      Oriented to details: has a sharp eye that will ensure consistency and high standards of YOURS materials;
      Proactive personality and comfortable in working independently;
      Sound judgment combined with humility and a focus on personal development and continued learning;
