Research and Development Technician

United Exports is seeking a dedicated Research & Development Technician to join our team. This role reporting to the Research & Development Manager offers the opportunity to work both independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team environment. The primary focus will be managing trial block locations across South Africa and spearheading innovation initiatives within the blueberry industry. A handson approach is essential for success in this role.

Key Performance Outputs:

• Assist in the daytoday management of trial blocks to ensure exemplary standards are met.
  
• Liaise with farm management to assist with labour requirements.
  
• Provide guidance and mentorship to trial block officers at various trial locations.
  
• Collect and manage trial block data ensuring accurate reflection across all required platforms in collaboration with the data science team.
  
• Lead and conduct trials on crop husbandry practices including pruning skirting thinning and tipping.
  
• Manage drip irrigation systems for optimal crop growth and yield.
  
• Collaborate with agronomists to develop crop protection and fertigation recipes.
  
• Host key customers and investors at trial blocks to showcase OZblu varieties.
  
• Compile comprehensive reports summarizing trial findings and cultivar development throughout the season.
  
• Work closely alongside Agronomy and Innovation team members to help solve critical issues.
  

Requirements

Qualification / Experience:

• BSc qualification in Horticulture Soil Science or Agronomy.
  
• Experience with Netafim drip irrigation systems preferred.
  
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  
• Exceptional planning and organizational abilities.
  
• Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  
• Willingness to travel as required.
