Regional Risk Safety Specialist

Our client is a mining multinational dedicated to the extraction of minerals based in Europe. They have operations all around the world several of them in Chile and Peru. They are currently seeking a Risk & Safety Specialist who provides leadership support and guidance to process safety and risk management implementation and governance. Of particular importance is implementing process safety and risk management standards in the South America Region as per CMS standards. He/she will also regularly have engagement with Enterprise Risk and Integrated Management Systems team to ensure synergy and alignment. A key challenge for the role is the implementation and rollout of process safety and risk standards taking into consideration the current level of capability and maturity across the assets in addition to the various local legislations.

Some responsibilities include:

• Implement regionally key process safety and enterprise risk management standards requirements and critical control performance standards in alignment with Copper Management System (CMS) Standards.
• Coach relevant asset and regional personnel on the intent and requirements of the CMS process safety and risk management standards. Support assets to undertake maturity assessments against the standards.
• Govern the development and implementation of asset improvement plans to achieve compliance to the process safety and risk management standards.
• Review and ensure that material risks are being adequately managed through the Copper Enterprise Risk Management Framework. Participate in risk reviews within the region and assets as per Enterprise Risk Standard.
• Develop the implementation plan and govern implementation of operational risk programs for the region.
• Implement process safety and risk key performance indicators and targets assurance routines and embed them into relevant assets in the region.
• Develop reports and presentations for process safety and enterprise risk management as required.
• Engage and foster business relationships with the region and asset leadership teams and personnel across the region. Work with operations to develop an effective and constructive culture based on the companys values philosophy principles and a culture focused on accountability.

The perfect candidate Engineer (or related discipline) with at least 8 years experience in the area of process safety engineering and risk management. Must have experience in reliability and operational risk management (ideally for the mining operations) with demonstrated experience in the implementation of process safety systems standards and governance. Will be required to travel periodically to the Assets for site familiarization and ongoing engagement.
