Description:

The Radiography Technologist is responsible for conducting radiography (xray) exams on patients while adhering to radiation safety protocols. This includes preparing patients administering contrast agents and ensuring the technical quality of images. They enter and monitor patient data accurately and efficiently conduct quality assurance checks on equipment and assist with accreditation applications. In the event of accidents or equipment malfunctions they promptly report incidents to management. Flexible in scheduling they may take emergency calls and administer diagnostic tests as needed. Additionally they support patient registration tasks and prioritize safety compliance and professional development. With a focus on patient education and care they review orders administer medications and monitor patient conditions closely. They also ensure equipment readiness troubleshoot malfunctions and execute imaging procedures accurately demonstrating a commitment to excellence in patient care and safety. Minimum qualifications include graduation from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and relevant certifications in Basic or Advanced Life Support and Radiology.


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Radiography Exams: Perform radiography (xray) exams on patients with strict adherence to radiation safety protocols. This involves comprehensive patient preparation including obtaining vital signs explaining procedures and administering IV and contrast agents when required. Ensure accurate patient positioning selection of appropriate imaging techniques and maintenance of high technical quality of images.
  • Patient Data Management: Efficiently enter and monitor patient data ensuring accuracy completeness and compliance with departmental standards for documentation and recordkeeping.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct regular quality assurance checks on radiology equipment to maintain optimal performance standards. Collaborate in the application process for accreditation from organizations such as the American College of Radiology (ACR) ensuring adherence to accreditation requirements.
  • Incident Reporting: Promptly identify and report any accidents complaints or equipment malfunctions to departmental management following established reporting protocols and procedures.
  • Emergency Call and Schedule Flexibility: Respond to emergency call duties within the department as required and demonstrate flexibility in work scheduling including weekend shifts and potential assignments to other locations to support operational needs.
  • Diagnostic Testing: Administer breath alcohol tests and urine drug screens when necessary following standardized procedures and protocols to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Patient Registration Support: Assist with patient registration tasks such as verifying insurance coverage collecting payments and updating patient information in the system to facilitate efficient departmental operations as needed.
  • Safety and Compliance: Maintain a safe environment for patients staff and visitors by strictly adhering to all Memorial Hermann policies procedures and standards including those related to time management supply management and service quality.
  • Professional Development: Pursue continuous professional growth and development by meeting mandatory education requirements and actively supporting departmental goals. Serve as a mentor and resource to junior staff members fostering a culture of learning and development within the team.
  • Patient Education and Care: Review patient history and physicians orders educate patients on procedures and equipment and administer contrast media and medications as ordered. Monitor patient condition closely responding promptly and appropriately to any changes in status.
  • Equipment Preparation and Maintenance: Prepare imaging equipment and supplies for procedures ensuring adherence to safety standards and conducting regular quality control checks. Troubleshoot resolve or report equipment malfunctions promptly to minimize disruptions in service delivery.
  • Imaging Procedure Execution: Ensure precise patient positioning and accurate execution of imaging procedures. Analyze imaging results for quality and identify any issues taking proactive steps to address them including repositioning patients or repeating procedures as necessary. Transmit and report scan results promptly and accurately to facilitate timely patient care and treatment decisions.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Licenses/Certifications:
  • Radiology License.
  • Certification in Basic or Advanced Life Support (BLS/ALS) required.
  • Registered Radiology Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRTR) required.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and maneuver patients with assistance to perform job functions effectively.
