Perfusionist

• Throughout surgical procedures operate and keep an eye on heartlung machines to make sure the cardiopulmonary bypass system is operating safely and effectively.
  
• Assemble and prime the heartlung machine making sure that all required tools and materials are on hand and operational.
  
• Throughout the procedure keep an eye on and make adjustments to temperature oxygenation blood flow and other factors to ensure the best possible patient circumstances.
  
• Following the surgical teams instructions administer drugs and blood products making sure to accurately record dosage and maintain correct records.
  
• Work together with the surgical team to predict changes in the patients state and adapt the perfusion parameters accordingly.
  
• Maintain and check perfusion equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety.
  
• Keep detailed records of perfusion procedures including patient information perfusion parameters medications administered and any complications.
  
• Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to stay current with advancements in perfusion technology and techniques.
  
• Provide comprehensive patient care in collaboration with surgeons anesthesiologists nurses and technicians.
  
  

Requirements

• Be accredited by the College of Clinical Perfusion of Great Britain and Ireland or possess an equivalent qualification.
  
• As a practising Clinical Perfusionist you must be registered with the College of Clinical Perfusionists of Great Britain and Ireland.
  
• Capable of performing the roles clinical and administrative functions.
  
• 5 years experience as a Clinical Perfusionist minimum of 2 years of experience as a perfusionist in a hospital setting preferably in a cardiac surgery program.
  
• Good knowledge of cardiopulmonary bypass techniques equipment and procedures.
  
• Good critical thinking and problemsolving skills with the ability to make quick and accurate decisions in highpressure situations.
  
• Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.
