Salary:up to 31200 per annum (Full time equivalent 52000 per annum)

Work Hours:Part Time up to 3 days per week

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our Standards and Guidance Team in the role of Patient Safety Manager. This is a key position that involves leading and shaping our patient safety strategy while coordinating activities related to patient safety within our organisation.

Requirements:

  1. Strategic Leadership:
    • Work with the Head of Professional Standards to shape and implement a comprehensive patient safety strategy aligned with the organisations mission vision Royal Charter and 5 year strategic plan.
    • Provide strategic guidance to the organisation and collaborate with other departments to integrate patient safety initiatives.
  2. Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Establish maintain and support relationships with key pharmacy and government patient safety groups networks and patient groups directly or through the relationships held by colleagues across the RPS.
    • Occasionally travel across GB will be required.
  3. Policy Development:
    • Stay abreast of industry trends regulations and best practices in patient safety.
    • Work with the GB policy teams on consultations policies and position statements related to patient safety.
  4. Coordination of Activities:
    • Coordinate and oversee patient safety initiatives programs and events.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure the effective integration of patient safety into all relevant activities this includes working with our National Pharmacy Boards.
  5. Training and Education:
    • Working with the education team and engagement team to help design and deliver education and training programs on patient safety for members and external stakeholders.
    • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement in patient safety practices.
  6. Patient safety incidents and pharmacy:
    • Lead the development of responses to patient safety incidents on behalf of the RPS including from Coroner Prevention of Future Death reports and Health and Safety Investigation Bureau investigations.
  7. Reporting and Analysis:
    • Establish a system for reporting and analysing our impact on patient safety.
    • Prepare and present regular reports on patient safety metrics to senior management National Pharmacy Boards and relevant stakeholders.

Knowledge & Skills for this job:

  • Degree in Pharmacy Healthcare Management or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a patient safety leadership role within the healthcare or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulations standards and best practices in patient safety.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills with the ability to make datadriven decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Project management experience including the ability to plan implement and evaluate patient safety initiatives.
  • Ability to present information and arguments clearly and concisely both orally and in writing and communicate effectively with people from a range of backgrounds.
  • Ability to organise prioritise and plan work to meet deadlines combined with the ability to display balanced initiative and forward planning.
  • Flexibility to adapt and react appropriately to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Selfmotivated and able to work without direction utilising innovative approaches when necessary.
  • Excellent team working approach including integrating into a closeknit team and working with colleagues at a distance.
  • Computer literacy including use of Microsoft Office and video meeting platforms.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body.

The Team

The new Patient Safety Manager role is part of the Professional Guidance Standards and Patient Safety team a combined team of 5 people working for England Scotland and Wales. The team are passionate about supporting our members be the best they can be. We have experience in a range of pharmacy sectors and work collaboratively to ensure we learn from each other.

The Directorate

This new role establishes a new dedicated Patient Safety function within the RPS and alongside Professional Guidance and Standards colleagues are part of a wider National Country Team structure working to implement to policies and priorities of the RPS three Country Boards. The Directorate is committed to visible professional leadership including through leadership in Patient Safety.

How we are currently working

RPS supports and works in a hybrid way which means you will be able to work from home however there will be an expectation for collaborative facetoface working on average and typically this may be something between 48 working days per month at either our London Edinburgh or CardiffOffice.
