Network and Linux Infrastructure Engineer - direct hire - Oxford, United Kingdom

Operates a large-scale infrastructure across multiple international sites. Our focus is on scalable, robust and well-thought-out engineering solutions.

We re looking for enthusiastic, reliable and bright candidates with a computer science/engineering background to fulfil challenging technical roles within a friendly and dedicated team. The critical nature of this infrastructure will require you to work both quickly and carefully and be available to provide out of hours support as part of a team.

The position is suitable for a junior profile looking to grow into the role.

Requirements

• Excellent understanding of network and routing protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LACP, OSPF, and BGP)
  
• Hands-on experience with enterprise class networking platforms (Cisco - IOS, Nexus, Arista)
  
• Thorough understanding of Next-Gen Firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Checkpoint, Cisco Firepower)
  
• Linux administration and security authentication and authorization systems, audit, hardening, analysis
  
• Excellent troubleshooting and creative problem-solving abilities, including packet-level traffic analysis
  
• Experience implementing, operating, and supporting open-source tools for systems monitoring and management on Linux platforms
  
• Technical architecture and design including high availability systems and networks
  
• Advanced Programming and Scripting for Automation Python, bash
  
• Proactive attitude & willingness to learn
  
• Good communication skills
  

Skills Preferred

• Technical writing skills including creation of high and low-level network and system designs
  
• Experience working with data center and service provider networks is a plus
  

Responsibilities

As an engineer within the infrastructure team. You will:

• Apply your expertise in some of the technologies listed above to architect and build scalable, robust, and secure systems to support trading operations.
  
• Drive the deployment of infrastructure using configuration management tools.
  
• Know if systems are working optimally and be able to diagnose faults and address them, working with vendors and other internal teams.
